Job Description

The NSTMF is looking for a self-motivated and energized individual who is excited to join an organization that is inspiring the next generation of scientists and technologists. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Associate will be integrally involved with all aspects of the donor stewardship process and will be responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of supporters.

Job responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to create a development plan which increases the size of the NSTMF’s donor network, and cultivates capital support for the NSTMF’s programming and operations.
    • The Development Associate will be expected to develop new donors and retain supporters for the inSTEM Pilot and the Unscripted Program.
  • Organize effective donor outreach, further developing a donor stewardship program, and retaining past supporters for future opportunities.
  • Build and develop a diverse set of revenue streams to help support the successful creation and execution of programming.
    • Substantially increase the network of high-net-worth donors
    • Retain past corporate sponsors of our Unscripted series
    • Apply and receive funding through grant applications
    • Supplement the creation of a comprehensive network-building initiative
  • Create and manage relationships with relevant stakeholders in the STEM community to ensure continued support and partnership building.
  • Work seamlessly with the rest of the NSTMF staff to ensure that proper messaging is consistent across all forms of correspondence and interaction.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, a candidate must possess the following skills:

  • Ability to organize and motivate donors to support the NSTMF’s goals and programming
  • Experience seeking out and cultivating relationships that lead to increased funding.
  • Demonstrate previous success meeting fundraising goals, through diverse funding streams. Candidates should have experience securing individual major gifts (of at least $5,000) and donations/sponsorships for events.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn about annual giving, planned giving.
  • Lead the implementation of donor recognition and stewardship activities.
  • Ability to work within a budget.
  • Provide friendly, donor-centered customer service and represent the NSTMF and its mission in a professional and positive manner.

Additional Experience:

Professional: 2-4 years relatable fundraising experience. Knowledge and/or experience in STEM related non-profits or subjects preferred, but not necessary. Grant-writing.

Software skills: Donor database management, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word and Excel

Personal Attributes: Must be a self-starter with strong organizational, communication/presentation and customer service skills; have the ability to interact with and relate well to others, and possess the ability to work independently. The new Development Associate must have a keen eye for detail and a collaborative spirit. Must be flexible; have a positive, can-do attitude; and have a strong desire to work in an industry that focuses on helping others.

Other Considerations: The job will require foundation subsidized travel 20-40 days/year.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
