Position Summary

The Tides Legal, Risk, & Compliance (LRC) team is seeking a Compliance Associate. The LRC team is wholly and passionately dedicated to reducing and managing risk to allow Tides and its partners to pursue their shared mission of achieving a world of shared prosperity and social justice.

The Compliance Associate will support Tides by handling a variety of administrative compliance functions.  The Compliance Associate will also support process development and continuous improvement objectives in the Legal, Risk and Compliance (LRC) Dept at Tides. The Compliance Associate is an exempt position. Exempt employees are expected to work the appropriate and necessary time to complete key assignments and related tasks on schedule. This position will be included in the collective bargaining agreement with SEIU 1021.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, monitoring, and implementing LRC’s annual workplan.
  • Maintain departmental and organizational database for LRC knowledge management, including training resources, guidance documents, activity trackers and policies.
  • Support the development and presentation of policies and procedures for Tides’ trainings, guidance documents and other resources.
  • Manage and coordinate documents related to specific transactions or projects, including by ensuring version control and creating comparisons, as requested.
  • Support data management, communication and broker requests related to Tides’ insurance program.
  • As needed and under the direction of the Director of Compliance, gather material related to regulatory audits.
  • Coordinate LRC department meetings and maintain notes regarding the same.
  • Maintain department calendar; support LRC staff with calendaring meetings with partners and cross-departmental colleagues.
  • Process LRC bills and invoices.
  • Assist in various process development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise with other departments to identify training needs, process gaps and additional areas for Compliance support.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 3+ years of compliance, paralegal or similar experience; paralegal certification a plus
  • Entry-level knowledge of nonprofit and/philanthropic compliance
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Salesforce and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to multi-task and re-prioritize tasks based on level of urgency
  • Ability to work independently, and at times, with minimal supervision
  • Strong team player and willing to assist in new challenges presented to the department and organization as a whole
