Our team provides implementation support to guide healthcare practices through every step of the system redesign and to build a foundation for a successful, sustainable practice. We have developed curricula and patient materials, and our facilitation training offers a variety of skill-building and interactive learning activities that prepare facilitators to lead engaging groups. We offer practice management and support tools, and site accreditation for model fidelity and quality assurance. We are engaged in advocacy efforts for payment reform and community outreach to achieve the Quadruple Aim of better health, better care, lower cost and provider satisfaction. Position Summary

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) works closely with the CEO and organizational leaders to develop, execute and sustain key strategic capacities focused on growing, measuring and articulating CHI’s reach and value proposition. The CSO represents the organization on federal payment policy matters and provides active leadership of CHI’s public policy, business development and data strategies.

 

Reports to:  Chief Executive Officer

Supervises: Director of Program Analytics, National Director of Business Development, Director of Value Based Payment Advocacy

Chief Strategy Officer Responsibilities:

Leads the development of the strategic plan/framework for the organization while adhering to direction set by the CEO and Board of Directors. This includes formalizing and leading the strategic planning process, focusing on long term trends and outlook, and competitive intelligence.

Facilitates the execution of the strategy by working collaboratively with the other Executive Leadership Team members and ensuring that the strategy is communicated and easily understood by all throughout the organization. Ensures that strategic actions are completed at various levels to achieve desired results.

Ensures that appropriate metrics are in place to measure performance and progress towards strategic goals.

Acts as a key advisor to the Chief Executive Officer on critical changes in the competitive landscape, marketplace and external business environment.

Represents CHI before CMS, CMMI, HRSA, the U.S. Congress and national policy stakeholders

Works in partnership with the Chief Engagement Officer on processes to identify opportunities and pressure test ideas for new products and program innovations that support the long-term organizational strategy.

Provides oversight, thought partnership and barrier removal to support the Director of Program Analytics in improving CHI’s data collection and analysis tools and develop systematic data reporting processes that support other functional areas of CHI and quality measurement and improvement initiatives for CHI’s consulting and support services to drive client retention, sustainability, and growth.

Provides oversight, thought partnership and barrier removal to support the National Director of Business Development in meeting the organizations aggressive growth goals and scale strategy, ensuring that sales objectives, processes and systems align with organizational strategic goals and that the sales team has the tools and technologies required to support their work.

In partnership with and oversight of the Director of Value Based Payment & Advocacy, advances CHI’s goal to scale access to the Centering model to marginalized communities through removing reimbursement barriers for clinical providers and maximizing payment models in Medicaid and the Prospective Payment System.

Engages external business and industry experts to learn and influence business strategies, constantly remaining alert and forward-thinking about opportunities and risks in the industry.

Leads the development and implementation of consistent practices and strategic frameworks across CHI.

Oversees the development and implementation of a knowledge management infrastructure and leads in the management of organizational knowledge as a strategic asset to further the organization’s goals.

Leads the organization’s approach to measurement and evaluation with a focus on achieving organizational goals and ensuring ongoing quality improvement across departments, products, and services.

Creates success measures and organizational dashboards and tools to communicate progress toward goals for impact and organizational effectiveness.

Communicates and implements CHI’s strategy internally and externally so that all employees, partners, suppliers, and contractors understand the strategic plan and how it carries out the company's overall goals.

Ensures departmental/unit strategic planning projects reflect organizational strategic priorities.

Partners with institutional leadership, special committees, and consultants to support execution of key initiatives.

Acts as a resource across an organization to increase broad cohesion for strategic plans.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

  • 12+ years of progressive advancement in state and/or federal healthcare payment policy / marketing / business development; cross functional experience is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrable expertise on value-based payment across healthcare provider types and settings
  • Existing relationships with relevant federal agencies preferred
  • Strong understanding of the factors that influence the adoption of innovative care delivery models
  • Comfort in managing strong subject matter experts with diverse backgrounds and skill sets
  • Exemplary record of collaboration with internal and external partners to achieve organizational goals
  • Dynamic forward thinker that can anticipate industry trends and mastermind innovative solutions
  • Ability to work effectively across organizational departments and functions to achieve strategic goals
  • Superior presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to make quick decisions under pressure
  • Strong understanding of budgets, accounting, and financial reporting
  • Experience with intellectual property and contract negotiations
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree or equivalent experience strongly preferred

Working Conditions

Work is sedentary in nature and performed in a remote office environment. Occasional travel to various venues to meet with stakeholders or practice sites. Involves frequent phone and email contact with stakeholders.

Physical/Mental Demands

Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation; stooping, climbing, and bending to files and supplies; mobility to complete errands; stand/sit for up to eight hours each day; ability to communicate clearly when using the telephone; requires sitting; standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and twisting at times; moderate levels of stress.
