DEPARTMENT 330 - Finance / STATUS: Full-Time/ CLASSIFICATION: Exempt / RANK: Officer  / DATE LAST UPDATED: January 2024

PURPOSE 

The purpose of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is to manage financial risks, coordinate financial planning efforts, report financial results and oversee the accounting functions of the University as well as day-to-day operations of the Finance Office. These responsibilities include general oversight of the offices of Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable, IT, Human Resources/Payroll and outsourced Campus Dining and insurance related activities. The CFO reports to the President and serves as liaison to the Board of Trustees on financial and accounting matters. The CFO is available to provide pastoral care and prayer and may be called upon to perform sacerdotal duties upon request of the University.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serves on President’s Cabinet and Administrative Council and in on other campus committees as needed.
  • Provide strategic leadership for managing financial risk, financial planning to help ensure sustainability.
  • Represents the University at professional meetings and with the Foursquare church as related to the responsibilities of the office.
  • Plans and directs the fiscal affairs of the University.
  • Develops and produces timely and accurate financial reporting to internal and external constituencies.
  • Oversees and monitors relevant accounting standards and regulations and oversees annual financial audit.
  • Oversees and monitors policies and procedures to ensure best business practices and a sound internal control environment.
  • Coordinates and leads the month-end and year-end close processes and the annual audit including related reporting requirements.
  • Ensures the processing of the weekly check disbursements. Ensure proper coding, substantiation and authorization on all expenditures.
  • Oversees Finance Manager to ensure accurate and timely processing of petty cash, weekly check disbursements, and all other payables. Process bi-monthly payroll.
  • Provides general supervision to direct reports including but at times not limited to the Finance Manager, IT Administrator, Human Resources department and the outsourced Campus Dining division.
  • Ensures sufficient property/liability insurance coverage at all times for all University properties, events and functions.
  • Approves and/or reviews all bank deposits and merchant account deposits.
  • Develops and manages the University’s budget process and leads the budget committee toward a budget proposal for the Board of Trustees each year.
  • Prepares and presents all necessary reports to the Board of Trustees and appropriate committees.
  • Works in association with the University Advancement and Financial Aid offices to ensure proper awarding and accounting of endowed and non-endowed scholarships
  • Approves all necessary journal entries and inter-department transfers.
  • Actively integrates Christian faith and prinicples into professional practice.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned by the President.

NOTE: Though not required, this position is optionally eligible for appointment as a Foursquare minister under certain conditions. If appointed as a minister, the employee will be available to provide pastoral care and prayer. In addition, s/he may be called upon to perform sacerdotal duties upon the request of the University.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  • A master’s degree in accounting, business, or related field is required; CPA, CMA or other certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years working knowledge of GAAP, FASB/GASB.
  • 3 years’ experience in financial strategic leadership and/or CFO capacity.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and QuickBooks.
  • Strong typing and 10-key skills are necessary to successfully manage time pressures.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong people skills and meticulous attention to detail are a must.
  • A vibrant and authentic Christian faith and worldview consistent with the College’s Statement of faith which all employees are required to sign.
