Sterling Search Inc. has been exclusively retained to recruit for the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the California Long-Term Care Education Center (CLTCEC).

The Board of Directors is seeking a CEO who has the vision and skill to build upon the momentum of success of CLTCEC by further developing the organization’s vision and its work as a champion for the education of long-term care workers, while continuing to achieve financial stability, and enhancing the impact of its programs.

The CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors and is the chief spokesperson representing the organization to constituencies, both internal and external. In addition to operational, financial, and administrative duties, the scope of responsibility includes overseeing program management, marketing, community relations, and strategic thinking and planning. The CEO will build, foster, and maintain a balanced organizational culture that combines the richness and relevance of programs and services with the efficacy of best business practices, fiscal accountability, and institutional impact.

The CEO must possess intellectual horsepower and be naturally persuasive, fair, and accountable. He/she will lead based on core ethics of excellence, accountable, transparency, diversity & empowerment to ensure that the best services are being delivered to its community. This is a phenomenal and rare nonprofit CEO leadership opportunity for someone who wants to build upon the incredibly reputable work of CLTCEC to continue to make it best in class for the education of long-term care workers.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

Own, Carry out and Advance the Purpose, Vision and Values

  • Pursue impact through collective motivation, enthusiasm, engagement, and commitment.
  • Promote an ethical environment with clear values, priorities and standards.
  • Lead by example and be a change maker in the industry.

 

Strategic Leadership

  • Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors and Senior Management team to create vision as well as execute and develop a strategic plan and budget for an appropriate growth strategy with the goal of stable, consistent and long term funding that meets the needs of CLTCEC now and assures organization viability into the future.
  • Lead the organization into the future, through organizational design, culture work, innovation, process improvement, and strong financial oversight.

 

Board Relations

  • Lead a collaborative process with the Board of Directors and its committees, executing decisions effectively and ensuring that the Board of Directors and its committees are informed of critical developments in a timely and effective manner.
  • With the Board Chair, coordinate the efforts and initiatives of: various Board Committees and Task Forces, Board meeting agendas, Board retreats; recruit diverse, talented and experienced new Board members and; encourage and plan Board members’ involvement in a range of the organization’s activities.
  • Implement approved Board policies, program goals and objectives and works collaboratively to enable the Board, its committees, and individual board members in fulfilling the Board’s governance functions.

 

Financial Management

  • Oversee the development and implementation of short- and long-range asset and fiscal strategic planning initiatives to ensure that current and future fiscal goals/needs are clearly identified and addressed.
  • Develop and recommend policies and procedures as requested by the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee the preparation of the annual budget for the Board of Director’s financial management, allocation and expenditure controls for the operations of the organization.
  • Provide for proper compliance and risk management, ensuring strict contract compliance with funder requirements.

 

Staff Leadership and Human Resources

  • Oversee key cultural initiatives and ensure collaboration with all department leaders, and function as an executive coach and resource for the senior management team.
  • Transform the organization into a higher performing entity that sets clear goals, obtains and measures results, generates strong employee loyalty and performance.
  • Oversee supervision and management of departments ensuring that staff competencies and the staffing mix are scaled to the needs of the organization and its clients.
  • ·Build upon the existing organizational culture of leading with humanity where people feel respected, valued, and safe; enabling them to perform at their best.

 

Revenue Generation and External Affairs

  • Serve as chief business development officer and fundraiser, sustaining current funding levels and actively expanding into new Health Plans and Foundations.
  • Evaluate new and innovative opportunities for diversity of revenue streams.
  • Represent the organization’s interests at the local, state, and federal levels as well as at relative industry groups.
  • Excel at initiating and fostering relationships with corporations, individuals, foundations, sponsors, industry supporters, trade magazines, business leaders, etc.
  • Continue to raise the public profile of CLTCEC by identifying opportunities to leverage exposure for the organization
  • Guide the increased awareness and impact of the organization, clearly articulating its mission, vision, programs, and strategic direction.

 

Education

  • Provide strategic vision and direction for all CLTCEC’s educational programming.
  • Oversee programmatic research, evaluation, and dissemination activities; document and report accomplishments and results.
  • Participate in the evaluation of existing and future educational programs and services, and in the establishment of goals, objectives, and standards.
  • Monitor operational efficiencies and improvement for programming, thereby raising standards of practice, productivity and value.
  • Evaluate and promote “user friendly and easy access” programming, especially with a focus on evolving technology.

 

Administration

  • Direct day to day operations and oversees the administration, coordination, and implementation of organizational policies, procedures, strategic planning, programs, and services.
  • Direct the management of information technology functions including systems applications and development, database administration, and financial systems.
  • Oversee and enforce policies, rules, regulations, and relevant laws.
  • Regularly provide concise reports to the Board on the state of the organization (key compliance issues, service delivery of programs and outcomes, revenue and expenses, and related administrative matters toward the development and execution of the organization’s mission, policy, and procedures).
  • Execute all other reasonable duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Requirements

We are seeking candidates offering the following qualifications:

  • Passion for CLTCEC’s mission and support for its industry union SEIU;
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, imagination, vision, leadership, and integrity;
  • Authenticity, emotional intelligence, and humility;
  • A minimum of 7 years of senior management experience, with increasing levels of responsibility and management of staff, preferably with direct collaboration with the Board of Directors;
  • Experience leading a complex organization through significant growth and/or change;
  • Experience working with multilingual and multi-ethnic communities and adult education is a preference;
  • Deep understanding of inequalities that stem from gender, racial, social and economic injustices;
  • Proven track record of management success with comparable P&L, planning, and operations responsibilities; exceptional financial, organizational, and administrative skills;
  • Proven track record of negotiation skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, including key community leaders and organizations;
  • A demonstrated ability to plan and operate strategically, to build public support, to strengthen infrastructure, to inspire staff and the Board of Directors, and to develop effective programs;
  • The ability to plan, set goals and objectives, organize and follow through;
  • A strong communication skill set, including experience and comfort with public speaking, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with and gain the respect and support of varied and changing constituencies, including staff, board members, funders, and others;
  • A team builder with a track record of effective staff management, including hiring, rewarding, developing, and retaining talented managers and administrative staff members;
  • Ability to juggle many responsibilities at once and to operate both independently and with the flexibility to be part of a team; willingness to listen to and collaborate with staff;
  • Computer literate: Knowledge of Word and Excel; and
  • Bachelor's degree required.
