Description
V2 is seeking a compassionate, energetic, and dependable Youth Specialist to support middle
and high school youth participating in our afterschool prevention and wellness programs. The
Youth Specialist plays a key role in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where
young people can build healthy relationships, strengthen social-emotional skills, and develop
resilience.
This position works directly with youth through mentoring, group facilitation, enrichment
activities, academic support, and prevention-based programming focused on mental wellness,
life skills, leadership, and healthy decision-making.
Essential Responsibilities
Youth Engagement & Relationship Building
o Build positive, supportive relationships with youth participants.
o Create a welcoming, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment.
o Serve as a positive role model and mentor for adolescents.
o Encourage youth participation, leadership, and personal growth.
Program Facilitation
o Assist in planning and facilitating afterschool activities, workshops, and small
groups.
o Support implementation of prevention and wellness curriculum related to:
o Social-emotional learning
o Mental wellness
o Substance use prevention
o Mindfulness and coping skills
o Healthy relationships
o Leadership development
o Facilitate recreational, enrichment, and team-building activities.
o Assist with therapeutic art, mindfulness, and wellness-based programming as
needed.
Behavioral Support
o Support youth in developing communication, self-regulation, and problemsolving
skills.
o Help maintain appropriate behavior expectations using positive behavior
management strategies.
o Identify youth needing additional support and communicate concerns to
supervisors.
Family & Community Engagement
o Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents, caregivers, school
staff, and community partners.
o Represent V2 positively within the community.
Qualifications
o High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in social
work, psychology, education, human services, counseling, or related field
preferred.
o Experience working with middle or high school youth preferred.
o Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
o Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
o Understanding of trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches preferred.
o Ability to lead groups and engage youth in meaningful activities.
o CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
o Must successfully complete background screening requirements.
Preferred Skills & Experience
• Experience with prevention programming, youth development, or mentoring.
• Knowledge of social-emotional learning and mindfulness practices.
• Experience facilitating groups or enrichment activities.
• Ability to de-escalate conflict and support youth behavior positively.
• Creative, flexible, and team-oriented mindset.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to actively supervise and engage with youth in indoor and outdoor activities.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.
Work Schedule
• Typically weekday afternoons (11 am - 6 pm)
• Additional hours for planning, administration, and recruitment events
