Vice President of Development

Help scale a proven Christian humanitarian ministry rescuing children, restoring families, expanding healthcare, fighting injustice, planting churches, and empowering local leaders across Africa.
Location: Remote - Major airport preferred
Compensation: $110K-$130K + incentive potential
Travel: 20-30% - Domestic & International
Reports To: Founder / CEO

Okoa Refuge is seeking an exceptional development leader who can inspire generosity, cultivate transformational partnerships, and connect high-capacity donors, churches, foundations, and business leaders to a mission changing lives across Africa.
The right candidate will not simply manage a donor portfolio. They will help shape the next chapter of organizational growth and global Kingdom impact.

The Vice President of Development will inherit a strong foundation of supporters while partnering closely with Founder & CEO Tyler Workman and the Board of Directors to help shape and accelerate the organization’s next chapter of growth.

The next VP of Development will help unlock the partnerships, donor strategy, and momentum required to expand Okoa's reach across East Africa and beyond.
The opportunity
Working in close partnership with Founder & CEO Tyler Workman and the Board of Directors, the VP of Development will serve as a key architect of Okoa's growth strategy and a primary ambassador for the mission.
80% Revenue Growth & Relationship Development
Major donors, foundations, corporate partners, planned giving, church partnerships, capital campaigns, and transformational relationship development.
20% Team Leadership
Guide and work alongside a small U.S. team supporting development operations, communications, marketing, storytelling, and donor engagement.

5-7+ years of fundraising leadership with measurable success in major gifts and high-dollar campaigns.

Fueled by leading and collaborating with the Okoa staff to drive sustainable, community-led development and lasting regional impact.
Core responsibilities
Serve as a primary face of Okoa Refuge to donors, partners, and churches.
Develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy across major gifts, corporations, foundations, planned giving, and campaigns.
Build, steward, and expand a robust donor network through intentional relationship cultivation.
Lead development support, communications, marketing alignment, storytelling, and donor engagement strategy.
Work alongside and develop the U.S. staff responsible for development support, communications, marketing, and, ensuring alignment with strategies and consistent messaging.
Ensure fundraising activities reflect the highest standards of integrity, stewardship, transparency, and accountability.
Report regularly to the Board on progress toward strategic goals.
