Volunteer Coordinator (Part-Time)
Our Mission
Women’s Storybook Project (WSP) connects children with their incarcerated mothers through literature.
Role
The Volunteer Coordinator supports WSP’s programs by coordinating volunteer scheduling, communications, and engagement. This role ensures that volunteers are well-informed, appreciated, and effectively contributing to the organization’s mission.
Core Responsibilities
Employees in this role are expected to:
● Schedule regular volunteer opportunities and special events through Signup.com.
● Create calendars and volunteer sign-ups for specific events.
● Send urgent emails to fill unclaimed spots or emergency callouts.
● Coordinate with volunteer groups to ensure participation options.
● Schedule and supervise in-house volunteers once a week.
● Contribute to WSP newsletters and social media regarding volunteer experiences.
● Communicate regularly with volunteers about opportunities and respond promptly to questions or concerns.
● Schedule and attend outreach opportunities for volunteer recruitment.
● Ensure volunteer hours are accurately tracked and recorded.
● Provide training for new prison volunteers.
● Update volunteers on training requirements and needs.
● Collaborate with the Executive Director on volunteer appreciation initiatives.
● Perform additional tasks as assigned.

● Organizational Skills: Ability to manage scheduling, calendars, and volunteer data efficiently.
● Communication: Strong interpersonal and written communication skills to engage volunteers and stakeholders.
● People Leadership: Ability to supervise and support in-house volunteers effectively.
● Adaptability: Flexible in handling changing schedules and volunteer needs.
● Attention to Detail: Accurate tracking of volunteer hours and training compliance. Assist volunteers in maintaining their TDCJ volunteer status.
● Collaboration: Work closely with team leaders, Executive Director, and grantors to achieve program goals.
Qualifications
● Experience coordinating volunteers in nonprofit or program settings preferred.
● Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
● Comfortable using online scheduling tools and tracking systems.
● Commitment to WSP’s mission and understanding of volunteer engagement best practices.
Measures of Success
● Timely scheduling and effective coordination of volunteer activities.
● Accurate tracking of volunteer hours and training status.
● High volunteer satisfaction and engagement.
● Strong collaboration with team leaders and Executive Director.
● Fulfillment of grant obligations related to volunteers.
Compensation & Benefits
● Part time position, 15 hours per week, variable.
● Ability to be present in the WSP office at least 6 hours per week (W,F) and 1 Saturday per month.
● Flexible Schedule/remote for remainder of hours.
● Competitive compensation commensurate with experience.
