Description
NMCLP seeks a Temporary Full-time Paralegal to provide high quality administrative and legal support for client representation and litigation cases. The majority of the Paralegal’s time will be focused on telephone calls to class action members and the documentation of those calls.
NMCLP is a nationally recognized nonprofit law firm that engages in systemic advocacy and impact litigation to advance the health, economic, and educational wellbeing of New Mexico’s families. We partner with communities across New Mexico, including immigrant and Native American communities, to provide advocacy and representation through the courts, the legislature and administrative agencies, community education, and media. Responsibilities
- Contact a database of at least 200 settlement class members (with potential for more), in connection with the administration of a class action settlement.
- Manage contact lists and the documentation of client interactions.
- Contact and interview agricultural workers, as time allows.
- Assist with other paralegal assignments, as time allows. Additional assignments may include conducting factual investigations, performing legal research, editing and filing pleadings and other legal documents, organizing and analyzing documents, preparing evidence, and investigating and developing cases and projects.
The position reports to the Director of the Workers’ Rights team. The typical salary range for this position is $55,295 to $77,000, commensurate with experience.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrates a deep understanding of and relentless commitment to NMCLP’s mission, and economic and racial justice for New Mexico’s communities.
- Undergraduate degree with paralegal certification or equivalent experience.
- Fluent in Spanish.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work closely and collaboratively with a diverse community.
- Experience with client relations conducted through telephone communication.
- Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
- Strong organization skills and carefully attentive to detail.
- Comfort with technology and learning new software and IT systems.
Preferred qualifications:
- Strong roots in New Mexico through personal and/or professional history.
- Experience in a nonprofit setting.
Things to know about the job:
- This position is temporary and will continue until the work is completed (approximately six months).
- Full-time (40 hours).
- Position is based in Albuquerque, NM and requires some physical presence at the office and ability to attend in-person meetings.
