Description
Are you seeking an opportunity to make an impact on one of the most pressing issues facing women today? If so, read on!
Abortion in America, a bold national initiative committed to reclaiming power through the truth of personal stories, is looking for a Statewide Organizer in your state. This is your chance to do transformative work rooted in healing, power-building, and systemic change. You will be part of a national community of dedicated advocates, storytellers, and movement leaders, and have ongoing opportunities for growth, learning, and leadership within a bold and evolving organization.
About Abortion in America:
In the wake of Roe v. Wade's reversal, we are building a powerful chorus of lived experiences to resist abortion bans and restore our fundamental rights. We center the voices of those directly impacted - because their stories are not only valid, they are vital.
Our work is grounded in three core priorities:
- Document and amplify the voices of those affected by abortion bans.
- Support storytellers with deep care and community connection.
- Invest in research to inform effective storytelling strategies and broaden public understanding. Together, we are rewriting the narrative and reclaiming our future.
About the Role:
Abortion in America is seeking a Statewide Organizer to serve as a dynamic connector, listener, and builder- someone who believes that stories change minds, shift power, and spark action. As our Statewide Organizer, you'll be at the heart of our work in your state, developing relationships with impacted individuals and building an inclusive, empowering environment for them to share their experiences. You'll identify new storytellers, nurture existing ones, and ensure they are seen, heard, and supported with care and respect.
You will also forge strong partnerships across the reproductive health, rights, and justice movements- and beyond. Whether with a local pastor, a doula collective, or a food justice organizer, you'll build a wide-reaching coalition that reflects the diverse reality of abortion in America. This is not a desk-bound role. You'll be out in the field meeting people where they are, lifting up community voices, and laying the foundation for long-term movement building.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build trust-based relationships with storytellers, offering consistent support and meaningful engagement opportunities.
- Identify and onboard new storytellers with compassion, clarity, and care.
- Co-develop and execute a state-based organizing strategy with Abortion in America leadership. - Partner with a wide range of community groups-from reproductive justice orgs to unexpected allies-to expand reach and deepen impact.
- Organize local events and actions that elevate stories and shift public conversation.
- Maintain accurate records of storyteller engagement and program impact using organizing tools like Airtable, EveryAction, or Asana.
- Collaborate on localized messaging and campaign strategy that authentically reflects your state's unique context.
- Travel frequently within the state and occasionally nationwide; work some evenings and weekends based on community needs.
Who You Are:
- A values-aligned organizer, advocate, or community connector with 1-2+ years of grassroots organizing, social work, or nonprofit experience.
- Deeply committed to reproductive justice, intersectionality, and anti-oppression values.
- Experience working with diverse communities and holding space for vulnerability and truth-telling.
- Experience developing and maintaining credible and productive relationships with elected officials, coalition partners and volunteers.
- Creative thinker who can build unconventional partnerships and meet people where they are.
- Skilled at managing multiple projects and priorities with flexibility and focus.
- [For Florida and Texas] Fluent in both English and Spanish-strongly preferred.
- Comfortable lifting up to 25 lbs., walking during canvasses or marches, and setting up outreach materials in various environments.
- Bachelors degree preferred from an accredited college or university in Women’s Studies, Political Science, Public Policy or other closely related field.
Compensation and Benefits:
This position has a salary band of $55,000 to $65,000.
Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions.
