Description

Help Build a Movement Fueled by the Power of Personal Stories

Are you a creative, detail-oriented digital strategist who believes stories can change the world? Do you understand how to translate personal experiences into compelling content that moves audiences to act? Abortion in America is seeking a Social Media Manager to lead the execution of our digital storytelling and content strategy — ensuring the truth of people’s lived experiences is seen, heard, and shared across the nation.

This role is ideal for someone who pairs strong editorial instincts with digital fluency, who thrives in fast-moving environments, and who understands the responsibility of handling sensitive stories with empathy and care.

About Abortion in America

In the wake of Roe v. Wade’s reversal, Abortion in America is a national initiative amplifying the personal stories of people directly impacted by abortion bans. We believe storytelling is movement work — research shows that personal narratives can change minds and mobilize communities.

Our work is rooted in three core priorities:

  • Documenting and sharing lived experiences of people whose lives and work have been affected by abortion bans.
  • Supporting and organizing storytellers to lead, speak out, and connect in powerful ways.
  • Using research and social analysis to understand what stories resonate — and why.

The Role

As Social Media Manager, you will power Abortion in America’s digital voice. You will manage day-to-day social media publishing, shape digital content strategies, and ensure that every post — whether a short-form video, graphic, or carousel — honors storytellers and strengthens our mission.

You’ll work closely with video editors, content creators, designers, and leadership to turn raw stories and research into content that informs, inspires, and mobilizes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain monthly social media calendars; manage review and approval workflows via email and Sprout Social.
  • Draft platform-specific copy, hooks, timelines, and creative briefs for designers and video editors.
  • Ensure all content aligns with campaign priorities, tone of voice, cultural context, and narrative strategy.

Community & Rapid Response

  • Monitor social channels daily; respond to comments and DMs with empathy, accuracy, and discretion.
  • Flag sensitive conversations, misinformation, or high-risk content to senior team members.

Collaboration & Creative Development

  • Work with the Digital Director and Creative Director to incorporate research insights, strategy, and tone across platforms.
  • Support collaborative content with media partners, creators, and campaigns — executing posts once partnerships are secured.
  • Help manage and delegate work to interns as needed.

Analytics & Improvement

  • Track and analyze performance using Sprout Social, Google Analytics, and Meltwater; deliver weekly and monthly reports.
  • Collaborate with the Digital Director to set and present goals, KPIs, and performance trends.
  • Execute A/B testing of content variables (length, visuals, hooks, captions) and share findings to refine future content.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience managing social media accounts for an organization, campaign, or brand.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Sprout Social, Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite, Frame.io, and transcription services.
  • Strong copywriting skills with the ability to adapt tone across platforms and audiences.
  • Experience with community management and moderating sensitive conversations.
