Job Title: Operations Manager
Reports to: Executive Director
Location: Los Angeles County (Hybrid – with in-person requirements)
Compensation: $45,000–$55,000 (Part-Time, 1-Year Contract)
About The Michael’s Daughter Foundation
The Michael’s Daughter Foundation (MDF) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to empowering youth in under-resourced communities through arts education and storytelling, sparking creativity, skill development, and self-expression. Through filmmaking, animation, and puppetry, our main program, “Dream Forward Arts in Residency” nurtures imagination, possibility, and self-empowerment.
Offered in Title 1 schools and juvenile facilities across Los Angeles, Dream Forward encourages students to break free from limiting narratives and develop original work that reflects their strengths, dreams, and creative voices. Each residency culminates in a community screening, where their films and projects are celebrated.
Beyond arts enrichment, MDF also provides financial literacy workshops, emergency support, and scholarships—ensuring young people are equipped with both creative and practical skills.
Founded by actress and educator Ciera Payton, MDF began as a one-woman show and has grown into a movement rooted in creativity, resilience, and community.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated and mission-driven Operations Manager to join our dynamic and growing team. This individual will play a key role in advancing our organization’s impact by ensuring operational excellence and supporting the programs that empower youth through creativity and self-expression and will work closely with our Executive Director, serving as a liaison between leadership and program staff to manage organizational operations and initiatives. Responsibilities include overseeing programs and program sites, staff management, recruitment, administrative oversight, and general operational leadership.
This role is ideal for someone who takes initiative, leads with clarity and compassion, and isn’t afraid to step in and take charge when needed.
Key responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Team Supervision: Provides clear, compassionate leadership to a team of program supervisors and teaching artists. Fosters a high-performance, mission-aligned culture through mentorship, strong communication, and accountability—ensuring youth-focused programs are implemented with consistency and care.
Organizational Design & Resource Management: Plays a key role in shaping and refining operational systems. Develops work schedules and allocates resources strategically to support smooth program delivery and team effectiveness.
Administrative Operations: Oversees core administrative functions including timesheet approval, invoice processing, and budget tracking. Collaborates with administrative and finance staff to maintain organized, compliant, and efficient internal systems.
Compliance & Risk Oversight: Ensures all programs remain compliant with regulatory and insurance requirements. Represents the organization in meetings, trainings, and funder events to maintain partnerships and uphold operational standards.
Human Resources & Talent Development: Leads recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of mission-aligned staff. Provides oversight for contract creation, maintains up-to-date policies, and supports a workplace culture rooted in inclusion, professionalism, and well-being.
Team Support & Conflict Resolution: Serves as a reliable point of contact for staff, teaching artists, and community partners. Resolves conflicts with professionalism and empathy, ensuring strong, collaborative relationships.
Program Oversight & Implementation: Supports implementation of arts education programs across school and juvenile justice sites, ensuring fidelity, quality, and measurable impact. Drives continuous improvement through evaluation and process refinement.
Community & Site Coordination: Maintains open communication with school and facility leadership, proactively addressing scheduling, logistics, and partner needs throughout each program cycle.
Procurement & Materials Management: Oversees purchasing and inventory for program materials, ensuring teaching teams have the tools they need to deliver high-quality programming within budget.
Data, Reporting & Collaboration: Works closely with finance and development teams to prepare quarterly reports and support data-driven decision-making that aligns with organizational goals.
Contract Management & Personnel Documentation: Instrumental in the drafting and management of contracts for all staff and contractors, ensuring there are clearly outlined roles, responsibilities, and compensation and ensures clarity, compliance, and alignment with organizational standards.
Conflict Resolution & Stakeholder Support: Addresses disputes or concerns among staff, teaching artists, contractors, and community partners with professionalism and empathy, fostering trust, collaboration, and a positive organizational culture.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Program Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of experience in program or operations management or similar leadership role
- Proven track record of successful team leadership and development
- Excellence in staff and project management and organizational development
- Proficiency in relevant software and technology platform
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in non-profit or arts organization preferred
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
