What you will be doing in the role of a Advisor, Strategic Philanthropy

The Advisor, Strategic Philanthropy (Major Gift Officer) is a senior frontline fundraising position within Susan G. Komen’s Major Gifts & Planned Giving team. This role is responsible for managing and growing a national portfolio of high-capacity donors across multiple regions, developing strong philanthropic partnerships, and securing multi-year and leadership-level gifts to advance Komen’s mission.

This position operates in close collaboration with Donor Experience Officers, National Director of Donor Experience, and Vice President to deliver a high-touch, donor-centered experience and to maximize revenue outcomes across assigned regions.

This role is a senior individual contributor position with no direct management responsibilities and is focused exclusively on donor relationship management, cultivation strategy, and revenue growth at the national level.

What you will bring to the table

  • Manage a national portfolio of major gift donors and prospects with an annual revenue responsibility growing to $1M+
  • Build long-term philanthropic relationships that drive donor retention, upgrades, and increased lifetime value
  • Develop and execute tailored discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
  • Secure major gifts, multi-year commitments, planned gifts, and tax-smart contributions including DAF, stock, and IRA/QCD gifts
  • Maintain consistent, high-touch donor engagement across channels including in-person meetings, video, phone, and personalized written communication
  • Partner with local market teams as necessary to coordinate cultivation strategies and local engagement opportunities to provide a seamless donor experience across regions
  • Serve as a national philanthropy partner and advisor to support market Executive Directors with donor engagement
  • Coordinate donor engagement across multiple markets to ensure consistent messaging, stewardship, and alignment with donor interests
  • Partner with the Vice President and National Director of Donor Experience to support overall major gift strategy and qualification pipelines
  • Represent Komen at donor meetings, cultivation events, and stewardship engagements regionally and nationally
  • Required to maintain accurate and timely documentation of donor activity, relationships, and solicitation strategies in Salesforce and associated fundraising tools
  • Use donor analytics and portfolio performance data to inform prioritization, segmentation, and cultivation strategy
  • Track portfolio KPIs and adjust strategies to optimize engagement and revenue outcomes
  • Identify and cultivate opportunities for recurring and multi-year commitments
  • Integrate tax-smart giving strategies into donor conversations including donor-advised funds, stock gifts, planned giving, and IRA QCD gifts
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Donor Experience teams to ensure coordinated donor messaging and stewardship efforts
  • Partner with leadership to identify major donor and foundation prospects for cultivation and proposal development
  • Support donor briefings, impact reporting, stewardship presentations, and recognition planning
  • Participate in donor strategy sessions related to high-capacity prospect engagement
  • Maintain strong knowledge of Susan G. Komen’s mission priorities, patient support programs, research funding initiatives, and community health efforts
  • Provide insights to department leadership based on donor trends and portfolio needs
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of national donor engagement strategies
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the mission and success of Susan G. Komen

We know you will have and be able to

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification strongly preferred
  • 7–10+ years of frontline fundraising experience with a strong track record in major gifts
  • Demonstrated success personally managing major gift portfolios generating $1M+ annually
  • Proven experience closing multi-year commitments and cultivating planned and tax-smart gifts
  • Proven experience closing six and seven figure gifts
  • Experience collaborating in a matrixed or national fundraising organization
  • Proficiency with Salesforce or comparable donor management systems
  • Technological fluency with Microsoft Office Suite and CRMs with strong documentation skills with attention to detail
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Gravyty, FreeWill, Momentum, Windfall, and Kindsight is a plus
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, goal-driven fundraising culture
  • Demonstrated commitment to mission-centered, donor-first fundraising practices
