Description
Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Human Resources Manager for a national nonprofit membership organization focused on professional advancement, education, and member engagement This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity based in the Chicagoland area, with the potential for a hybrid schedule of Tuesday through Thursday onsite.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Human Resources Manager will serve as a trusted and substantially self-sufficient HR resource, providing hands-on support and guidance to employees, managers, and organizational leadership. This position will assess current HR practices, identify priorities and opportunities for improvement, and establish practical, compliant processes across employee relations, recruitment, benefits, performance management, and HR operations. The ideal candidate is an approachable and solutions-oriented HR professional who thrives with autonomy and can balance employee needs, organizational priorities, and HR best practices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the organization's primary day-to-day HR resource, advising employees, managers, and leadership on employee relations, policies, performance management, compliance, and other people-related matters.
- Manage recruitment, selection, onboarding, retention, employee recognition, performance review, and professional development processes while supporting a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
- Assess existing HR practices, identify gaps and organizational risks, and develop or strengthen practical policies, procedures, job descriptions, employee documentation, and HR infrastructure.
- Support employee relations matters, including coaching, workplace investigations, disciplinary conversations, terminations, and manager guidance while maintaining confidentiality and sound professional judgment.
- Administer and support employee benefits, vendor and broker relationships, compensation research, salary and benefits surveys, payroll-related activities, personnel records, and annual employee engagement initiatives.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state employment requirements, oversee updates to the employee handbook, and help ensure organizational HR practices remain compliant and effective.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Well-rounded, hands-on HR experience across multiple areas such as employee relations, performance management, compliance, benefits and leave administration, recruitment, onboarding, and manager support.
- Demonstrated ability to independently assess HR practices, establish priorities, build or improve processes, research requirements, and provide practical recommendations to organizational leadership.
- Strong employee relations skills with the ability to serve as an approachable, credible, neutral, and confidential resource for employees and managers at all levels.
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now, Microsoft Office, vendor management, and HR administration; SHRM-CP certification is highly desired.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organization, project management, judgment, and interpersonal skills; experience within a nonprofit, association, professional society, healthcare, or medical environment is a plus.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This direct-hire opportunity offers a salary of approximately $99,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. The position is full-time and may require occasional evening or weekend obligations and less than 10% travel.
