Role Summary & Core Purpose

The Executive Director serves as the organization’s chief executive, providing strategic, financial, and operational leadership to advance a mission-driven animal welfare organization. This role is accountable for organizational growth, program quality, financial sustainability, fundraising, and community engagement, while fostering a culture of compassion, accountability, and excellence in animal care aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.

Top Responsibilities

  • Lead organizational strategy and partner with the Board to achieve mission and growth goals.
  • Oversee financial management, budgeting, and fundraising to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Supervise and develop staff and engage a large volunteer base.
  • Ensure effective shelter operations, high-quality animal care, and program outcomes.
  • Represent the organization publicly and build strong community partnerships.
  • Maintain compliance, oversee facilities, and drive continuous operational improvement.
  • Support Board governance and provide regular organizational updates.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Associate degree (business, nonprofit, animal welfare, etc.)
    • 3–5 years fundraising leadership with 2–4 years program management and 1+ year staff supervision
  • Preferred:
    • Executive-level experience
    • Animal welfare background
    • Volunteer management experience.
    • Board collaboration experience.

Work Requirements/Environment

  • On-site at shelter facility with flexible daytime hours Monday–Friday and occasional evenings/weekends
  • Coverage for emergency animal welfare situations
  • Monthly board meetings and committee meetings when applicable

Requires:

  • Reliable transportation, phone access, and ability to lift 15 lbs.

Salary - $75,000-$80,000
