Maine 4-H Foundation Executive Director Job Description
Office Location: TBD -Current possibilities include Bridgton, Maine; Falmouth, Maine; and/or Orono, Maine
Organization: Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation DBA Maine 4-H Foundation
Job Environment: Works in collaboration with UMaine Cooperative Extension, the UMaine Foundation and other community entities
Salary Position: $85,000 to $100,000. Salary negotiated based on experience

Purpose: The Executive Director will provide leadership and financial accountability in developing public and private resources to support the mission of the Maine 4-H Foundation. As Executive Director of a public charitable foundation, fundraising and donor development are critical components of this position.
Statement of the Job:
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Maine 4-H Foundation. The position requires a high level of autonomy and self-motivation and is charged with managing and executing a wide range of administrative, marketing, development, and operational support activities in collaboration with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension and the University of Maine Foundation. The Magic Lantern Innovation Center is a collaborative project of the Maine 4-H Foundation working with the local communities. This position executes the day-to-day activities of the Maine 4-H Foundation, public relations, events planning, fund development, and some marketing all while maintaining confidentiality and integrity.

Essential Duties of the Job:
As Executive Director this position requires:
- Work in collaboration with the 4-H Foundation’s Board of Trustees to develop annual fundraising goals and a strategy for success in their achievement.
- Work with the Maine 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees on the long-term funding advancement strategy and plan to support Maine’s 4-H programs
- Develop a one-year immediate work plan within an existing five-year development plan.
- Provide ongoing support, communication, and board development to the 4-H Foundation's Board of Trustees in conducting their work.
- Coordinate donor stewardship activities that include working with the University of Maine database and communication with donors.
- Oversee Foundation board meetings, annual meeting, and committee meetings in partnership with the Assistant Director.
- The position will have supervisory responsibilities for the Magic Lantern Innovation Center Director and the Assistant Director.
- Connect with the UMaine Extension Marketing and Communications Team to help promote the 4-H Foundation in support of development initiatives.
- Work with committees of the Foundation including the scholarship, finance, and executive committees and the annual meeting event (spring or summer with scholarship presentations).
- Work with the financial managers and the finance committee on all investments, endowments, fiscal reporting, and the 990.
- Prepare and review 4-H grant requests in collaboration with UMaine Extension on 4-H program grant requests.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external agencies and organizations as appropriate to serving the mission of the Maine 4-H Foundation.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key partners at the state and national levels.
Oversight:
- Reports to the Maine 4-H Foundation Board.
- Advances the work of the Foundation to a broader audience and expands the donor base and collaborative support.
- Works with the board and colleagues to develop and meet the Foundation’s achievement targets.
- Supports the Maine 4-H Foundation collaboration with Cooperative Extension and the UMaine Foundation including MOU and data processing.
- Works with support staff and the UMaine Foundation on gifts processing and budget planning.
- Works with support staff and UMaine Foundation of state gift reporting, state licensing, UMaine annual reporting, UMaine gift reporting.
- Works with the Magic Lantern Innovation Center staff team on overall operations and on fund development.
- Works with the Maine 4-H Camp and Learning centers to develop funding opportunities.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in experience and training.
- Three or more years of relevant work experience in fund development, non-profit foundation work, small business or similarly complex public or private organization.
- Organizational and donor marketing knowledge and experience including demonstrated success.
- Experience with donor development.
- Effective oral, written, and electronic communication skills.
- Independent work skills and multiple task management skills in an autonomous work environment as well as teamwork skills and ability to achieve and document measurable results.
- Demonstrated abilities to perform complex tasks, prioritize multiple projects, and analyze, summarize, and effectively present data.
- Demonstrated leadership, personnel management, and facilitation skills, including strict attention to work project details and conflict management skills.
- Demonstrated positive supervisory experience.
- Ability to travel both in and out-of-state by public transportation and personal automobile. Has a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to occasionally lift 30 pounds.
- Fluency in MS Office and Google Suite and social media platforms
- Experience with customer/donor relationship management tools, like Advance.
- Ability to multitask, organize, and prioritize, to meet work deadlines.
- Demonstrated record of trustworthiness, discretion, and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Organizational and operational/project management acumen.
- Strong demonstrated computer, critical thinking, and verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:
- MS in Business Management/Fund Development with at least two years of experience.
