Description
Position Overview
The Hunger Coalition seeks a strategic and values-driven Executive Director to serve as the organization’s chief executive and steward of its mission. The Executive Director holds overall responsibility for organizational health and effectiveness, including leadership of a senior management team, partnership with the Board of Directors, financial sustainability, and oversight of a 22-person organization.
The Executive Director provides long-term vision and direction while ensuring alignment across strategy, programs, people, and operations. They serve as the primary public representative, building trust with participants, partners, donors, and the broader community.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Partner closely with the team of Directors to develop and implement long-term strategies aligned with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. Lead ongoing strategic planning and ensure adaptability to community needs.
- Fundraising & Resource Development: develop and support diverse fundraising initiatives responsible for sustaining a $3.5M+ annual budget.
- Operational Management: Work with the management team to oversee the staff, the volunteers, day-to-day operations, including program delivery, financial management, human resources, and compliance with laws and regulations. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and inclusivity.
- Community Engagement & Advocacy: Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for The Hunger Coalition. Build and maintain relationships with participants, partners, donors, volunteers, government agencies, and the media to further the organization’s reach and impact.
- Board Relations: Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set strategic direction, report on progress, and support governance best practices. Facilitate effective communication between board members and staff.
- Staff & Volunteer Leadership: Inspire, mentor, and manage a diverse team of staff and volunteers. Promote professional development and a positive organizational culture.
- Program Oversight & Evaluation: Ensure the effective design, implementation, and evaluation of hunger relief and community programs. Along with partner organizations, use data-driven insights to measure impact and refine services.
Key Selection Criteria
- 10+ years of proven leadership experience in non-profit management, social services, or a related field.
- Demonstrated success in fundraising, including major gifts, planned giving, and corporate sponsorships
- Demonstrated success in financial management for operating budget of $3.2M or greater, staff development and organizational growth.
- Exceptional communication (particularly storytelling), presentation and interpersonal skills, with experience as a spokesperson or community advocate. Must be able to interact with a wide variety of people throughout the community.
- Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Able to use data analytics for decision-making.
- Experience working with diverse populations and a commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Knowledge of food (in)security, or community development issues (preferred).
- Must be comfortable with technology. Experience with systems such as QuickBooks, Bloomerang, and BambooHR a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience preferred.
