Position Summary
The Elementary Visual Art Teacher at The Foundations School designs significant learning experiences in studio art, art history, and art appreciation for kindergarten through 5th grade. They work with the Director of Arts Integration, the Chief Programs Officer, and Classroom Teachers to plan and co-teach arts integration lessons and international classroom-classroom content.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate mastery of central visual art concepts, use of tools and media, and use of relevant technology in teaching and learning processes.
- Work closely with the Director of Arts Integration and classroom teachers to design and implement creative and challenging arts-integrated learning opportunities that are developmentally appropriate and engaging. Meet with other relevant staff to maintain high quality programming.
- Individualize and modify lesson plans to accommodate learning differences.
- Develop a classroom culture of fairness, respect, kindness, and inquiry.
- Establish and maintain a safe and secure classroom environment.
- Address student misconduct promptly and resolve conflicts with effective intervention strategies.
- Design and implement grade-level appropriate learning experiences that foster artistic, intellectual, and ethical development for all students.
- Model and reinforce sound decision-making, self-control, and accountability.
- Participate in ongoing professional development in arts integration and global learning experiences.
- Complete all planning and preparation needed for art integration instruction and lessons, including ordering/purchasing supplies in a timely manner.
- Utilize formal and informal assessment methods to evaluate student academic performance and modify instructional strategies where needed to maximize student achievement.
- Work with teachers to lead students through the process of creation and taking projects to completion.
- Work closely with the Chief Programs Officer in planning and implementing classroom-to-classroom International Collaborations.
- Maintain email and Zoom correspondence with various teachers/school administrators at schools involved in International Collaborations.
- Document and archive lesson plans, videos/photos/artwork/artist statements.
- Curate, display, and regularly rotate student artwork throughout the school building to celebrate creativity and foster a visually engaging learning environment.
- Assist in planning and coordinating in-person collaborative activities with visiting international schools.
- Demonstrate an understanding and value of Social Emotional Learning and Responsive Classroom approaches in your teaching.
- Agree to participate in all applicable staff and program evaluations which includes program diagnostics as well as formative and summative assessments per program requirements.
- Arrive promptly, properly attired, and prepared to work with students.
- Supervise students in a safe and respectful manner during recess and during the after-school hours to ensure safety, and to encourage cooperative and enriching activities
- Maintain professional conduct while working with students in kindergarten through fifth grade for The Foundations School (TFS) at the Center for Creative Education (CCE) as established by CCE and delineated in the employee handbook.
- Fulfill and maintain any licensing requirements for this position as stipulated by CCE and other governing entities.
- Professionally represent CCE at meetings and events.
- Have professional personal presentation including good hygiene, professional dress, and friendly attitude.
- Demonstrate reliability and consistency.
- Complete any additional tasks as they arise, per request of program managers or as needed.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Preferred Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts (significant experience)
- Minimum of 3 years teaching experience with children K-5
- A comprehensive understanding of visual art media and a demonstrable history as a professional artist.
- Must successfully pass Level II background check and be cleared through E-verify with Homeland Security.
Certificates/Licenses:
- Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) certification in art education
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (equipment needed to conduct training off and on-site)
- Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly in communicating effectively with adults and children.
