Position Overview
This role leads RFA’s Workforce Development team, overseeing its technical assistance (TA) services designed to help state and local government workforce officials invest taxpayer dollars in what works through evidence-based budgeting, procurement, and grant-making. The Director also serves as RFA’s internal lead on workforce development issues.
Travel up to 20% annually may be required.
This is a full time, exempt position, based in a home office anywhere within the U.S.
Position Reporting Relationship
The Director, Workforce Development will report to RFA’s Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Position Responsibilities
Duties for this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Issue Area Lead (75%)
- Oversees and is accountable for effective delivery and impact of Workforce Development team’s state and local technical assistance services
- Oversees and is accountable for content creation and maintenance of RFA’s workforce development-focused public goods
- Serves as an internal policy advisor to RFA’s Federal, State, and Local Practice Lead VPs on all workforce development issues
- Reports internally on progress towards state and local implementation and mobilization strategies, RFA’s North Star goals (dollars shifted, proof points), and Workforce Development team annual goals
- Represents RFA externally in specified meetings with senior-level stakeholders from state and regional organizations, governments, and other partners. As appropriate, identifies new speaker events/conferences to broaden RFA’s sphere of influence
- Supports Fed, State and Local Practice VPs and VP, Development to identify new and cultivate existing funder relationships. As appropriate, participates in external funder meetings and collaborates on the creation of new proposals.
Team Oversight and Org Leader (25%)
- Leads, supervises work of, and is accountable for ensuring the Workforce Development team achieves its goals (Impact goals; annual plan goals)
- Develops and is overall accountable for workforce team annual budget and grant budget management, including monthly P&L reviews, budget variance analysis and midyear re-forecast budgeting decisions
- Oversees and models team efforts for strong relationship-building & management with government partners
- Ensures Workforce Development team executes routine internal performance management and continuous quality improvement, and internal/external reporting deadlines (in Salesforce)
- Ensures Workforce Development team meets year-round grant reporting milestones, including reporting docs and deliverables
- Builds strong team culture and models people managerial skills
- Serves as an enterprise leader, championing diverse teams and modeling RFA’s org values and inclusive culture.
Experience, Competencies, and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, as well as an alignment with Results for America’s mission and organizational values:
Experience and Qualifications:

- 12+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelors degree
- Required: Grant-making/procurement and/or budgeting experience as an employee within state and/or local government
- Preferred: Master’s degree (ie MPP; MPA; MBA)
- Required: At least 5 years prior experience direct supervision of full-time staff
- Prior experience setting, forecasting, & managing annual program budgets
- Prior experience cultivating funders & meeting fundraising targets
- Tech stack: GoogleSuite; Slack; Salesforce; Asana.
Competencies:
- Demonstrated ability to set, lead and hold accountability for program or product efficacy and/or long-term projects with org-wide strategic impact
- History of designing, developing, and investing a wide range of stakeholders in new or revised programs, products, and/or services
- Proven ability to successfully set, collaborate on, and lead others to meet ambitious program or product goals and plans on a designated budget
- Communicates confidently across diverse professional settings with a wide range of stakeholders and audiences, including executive-level leadership
- Excellent interpersonal skills; proficient at influencing others and building trust at all stakeholder levels
- Adaptive skill set; anticipates unplanned variables in completing projects, often in dynamic contexts
- Models critical thinking; incorporates data, research, and feedback to drive decision-making at a program, product and/or service level
- Demonstrated ability to supervise multiple full-time staff and build team culture
Salary and Benefits
Results for America offers a compensation package that includes:
- A competitive base salary commensurate with relevant work experience; and
- A benefits package that includes choice in medical plans; dental/vision coverage; paid time off; a 403b retirement plan with employer contribution.
The salary range for this position is $147,041- $191,386.
New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
