Description

Chicago Family Health Center (CFHC) is a mission-driven, nonprofit Federally Qualified Health Center serving Chicago's South and Southeast Side communities across six sites. We're seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Finance to join our leadership team and strengthen the financial foundation that makes accessible, high-quality care possible.

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance oversees day-to-day accounting operations and the teams responsible for Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Grant Accounting. This role is ideal for a finance leader who pairs technical accounting depth with the judgment to navigate the grant funding, cost reporting, and compliance environment unique to community health centers.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the Finance Department, including the Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Grant Accounting teams.
  • Own the monthly and annual close, including revenue cycle postings, payroll and benefits accruals, purchasing, and accounts payable.
  • Prepare annual audit schedules and support the CFO in developing budgets, fiscal reports, and management and informational reporting.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity and coding that drives cost reporting, grant billing and receivables, and tracking by location, department, grant, and asset restriction.
  • Ensure accurate, timely reporting for federal, state, and private grants, including compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and single audit requirements.
  • Safeguard compliance with applicable financial regulations, GAAP, and funder requirements.
  • Select, train, orient, supervise, and develop department staff; recommend merit increases, promotions, process improvements, and corrective actions.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including at least three (3) years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience with grant accounting, fund accounting, or nonprofit/healthcare finance strongly preferred; FQHC experience is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of financial regulations, GAAP, and audit standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate financial data for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead, develop, and retain a high-performing team.
  • Proficiency with financial/accounting software and the Microsoft Office Suite.
