Description of Work
The Development Director is responsible for the management of all aspects of ongoing Capital Campaigns, long-term fundraising, and grantsmanship for the USS North Carolina Battleship Commission, in support of the Battleship North
Carolina Memorial. Responsibilities include relationship building, fundraising activities, staff management, donor database management, financial reporting and auditing, solicitation licensing, etc. The Development Director will work for the Executive Director and USS North Carolina Battleship Commission to initiate, coordinate, and implement all aspects of the development and grants programs. Long-term, the development office will build and maintain a robust and comprehensive annual and special gift development program.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Development & Campaign Management - Research, identify, and implement comprehensive plans to secure contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government sources to support the Battleship.
- Grant Application and Management – Identify grant opportunities aligned with strategic goals, draft proposals for approval, and maintain a database tracking all deadlines.
- Administration and Staff Training – Maintain centralized digital and hard-copy donor history databases, prospects logs, and assignment tracking reports to ensure accurate documentation of campaign progress.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are not required.
Applicants who possess the following are preferred:
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising, development, advancement, philanthropy, or grant administration
- Experience managing major gifts and donor stewardship programs
- Experience in grant writing and grant management
- Experience with donor databases/CRM systems and prospect research
- Experience leading fundraising campaigns and community partnerships
Position/Physical Requirements
- Must be available to work the schedule of Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm with occasional weekends and holidays required as needed.
- This position's place of work is located on the Battleship North Carolina. Must be able to climb, crouch, reach, push, finger, grasp, talk, hear, and do repetitive motions with or without accomodation.

Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media, journalism, English, or related field from an appropriately accredited institution
AND
four years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Recruitment Range: $57,983.00 - $80,713.00

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
