Abortion in America, a bold national initiative committed to reclaiming power through the truth of personal stories, is seeking an executive level Creative Director to join our leadership team.  This is a rare opportunity to help build something new – from the ground up – at a pivotal moment in our country’s fight for reproductive freedom.

About Abortion in America :

In the wake of Roe v. Wade's reversal, we are building a powerful chorus of lived experiences to resist abortion bans and restore our fundamental rights. We believe that storytelling is movement work.  Research shows that personal narratives can change minds and mobilize communities.  That’s why our work is rooted in three core priorities:

  • Documenting and sharing the stories of those directly impacted by abortion bans
  • Supporting and organizing storytellers to lead, speak out, and connect in powerful ways
  • Using research and social analysis to understand what stories resonate – and why

About the Role:

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will be responsible for shaping and elevating the public voice and vision of Abortion in America.  As a senior leader, you will steward our tone, style, and storytelling across platforms – ensuring that every piece of content we create breaks through the noise and reflects the strength, diversity, and humanity of this movement.  You’ll lead a creative team and work cross-functionally with organizing, digital, partnerships, and executive leadership to expand the reach and impact of our work.

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Lead Creative Strategy

Develop and implement a cohesive brand identity, creative vision, and tone of voice that authentically reflect the values of Abortion in America

  • Steward Storytelling in Key States

Oversee and guide the creative process for story collection and production across multiple formats (video, audio, written), collaborating closely with our organizers, Digital Director, and local partners

  • Supervise Content + Digital Strategy

Manage the Digital Director and Managing Editor to ensure content across social media and abortioninamerica.org is aligned with our creative goals and messaging framework.

  • Build and Manage Creative Team & Partners

Develop internal capacity and manage a network of trusted creatives – graphic designers, filmmakers, editors, web developers, writers, and more

  • Bridge Content and Community

Work with the Director of Partnerships to pursue bold collaborations with other organizations, cultural leaders, influencers, and platforms to expand reach

  • Uphold Inclusive, Brave, Compelling Content Standards

Ensure all creative reflects our DEI commitments – uplifting historically excluded voices, telling stories with care and consent, and centering community and authenticity

  • Represent the Organization

Serve as a public-facing ambassador for Abortion in America, representing the project in press, events, and partnership conversations

Who You Are and What You Bring:

We are looking for a values-aligned creative leader with vision, discipline, and heart with:

  • Proven executive experience leading creative direction for a brand, nonprofit, campaign, or media project
  • A strong commitment to reproductive justice and equity
  • Demonstrated excellence in storytelling (written, visual, digital, or multi-platform)
  • Experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and tight timelines
  • Skill in building and directing teams, giving feedback, and nurturing creative talent
  • High emotional intelligence and cultural competency
  • Comfort working across sectors – with community organizers, researchers, media, and storytellers
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, content management systems, and digital workflows
  • We are a remote-first work culture with travel required for events and filming and working flexible hours as needed

Compensation and Benefits:

This is an exempt position with a salary band of $160 - $185K.

Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families). Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions. Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 160 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health leave, up to 2 days of casual leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 13 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave after 90 days of employment.
