Description
Role Summary
The Chief of Staff ensures coherence, accountability, and high performance across a complex network of consultants and partners working on a cross-partisan immigration strategy. This role coordinates the work across grantmaking, policy design, strategy communications and political engagement. This includes creating a structure and processes to allow the leadership team to make effective decisions, and helping to design and implement an overall organizational structure to maximize impact.The ideal candidate excels at building and coordinating workstreams in a start-up environment, managing senior personnel, facilitating alignment among diverse workstreams, identifying opportunities for impact and driving accountability in a politically dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Coordination & Accountability
- Coordinate network consultants, partners and grantees to ensure strategic alignment and high performance, including helping to design and operationalize a program structure in a start-up environment;
 - Establish and track key performance metrics across the initiative, tailored to different consultants, partners and grantees;
 - Be opportunistic and identify opportunities for collaboration within the project or in the broader ecosystem, and effectively facilitate those collaborations;
 - Identify when work is off track and escalate issues or suggest redirection of resources as needed;
 - Identify additional resources needed to achieve the goals of the Project;
 - Create synergies across workstreams to ensure each supports broader strategic goals;
 - Ensure, to the extent possible, that work across the relevant immigration advocacy ecosystem is coordinated, including through grants; the use of shared resource around messaging and strategic communications; convenings; and maintain a birds-eye view of work across the relevant immigration policy ecosystem and drive forward efforts to consolidate and offer shared resources;
 - Help organize the strategy, programming and logistics of quarterly convenings of all partners to ensure work is moving forward.
 
Leadership Team Support
- Create structure and processes that enable decision-making by the leadership team
 - Set agendas for leadership team meetings and drive progress on strategic priorities
 - Serve as integrator across leadership functions (e.g. grantmaking, policy, communications, political strategy)
 - Ensure the strategy is responsive to political developments and deadlines
 - Manage implementation of leadership decisions once made
 - Track workstreams of leadership team members to ensure efforts are coordinated and on track
 
Operational Excellence
- Build systems for effective information flow and collaboration among consultants, partners and grantees
 - Manage interpersonal dynamics and facilitate critical conversations between actors with diverse points of view
 - Record key decisions and drive follow-through
 - Develop materials, timelines, and frameworks that advance the strategy
 
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of leadership or senior management experience including change management
 - Proven track record managing senior-level consultants or executives
 - Exceptional people management and facilitation skills, and exceptional organizational skills
 - Strong understanding political advocacy in the United States
 - Experience creating accountability structures in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
 - Assertive leadership style with ability to hold senior professionals accountable
 - Ability to distill complex strategies and ideas into concrete, forward looking workplans
 - Familiarity with campaign or organizational structures, and comfort with organizational design
 
Preferred
- Familiarity with immigration policy or advocacy
 - Experience coordinating networks of independent consultants and/or partners
 - Background in political campaigns, advocacy organizations, or other fast-paced environments
 - Experience in a start up environment
 
Position Details
- Full-time position with preference for East Coast hours
 - The salary range for this role is $136, 000 - $150, 000 (USD). The final offer is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set and level of experience.
