About Siyavula
The Siyavula Foundation is an impact-driven education technology non-profit with an active commercial subsidiary, headquartered in South Africa. Why join our Board?
This is an opportunity to join a growing impact-driven organisation at a crucial stage of continental expansion and organisational maturity. As a board member, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our growth, broadening our impact and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our work.

Role specification
Responsibilities: Offer strategic insights and connections to advance regional expansion, continue product improvement, unlock new networks and ensure lasting impact. Provide strategic governance and oversight to ensure statutory compliance, sound financial management and alignment with stated values and goals.

Time commitment: Approximately 8 - 10 days annually, including four virtual board meetings. Opportunities for ad hoc engagement based on interest and expertise.

Location: Fully remote, with a focus on African-based representation. Occasional in-person engagement may arise depending on location.

Compensation: This is a voluntary role.

Timing: New board members will join the board in Q1 2026 with onboarding continuing through Q2

Person specification
We are recruiting 2 new board members to strengthen our strategic capacity. Ideal candidates will be visionary leaders with a commitment to equitable education and meaningful technological inclusion.

We are especially interested to hear from individuals who have expertise and experience related to:

  • Educational technology
  • Engaging governments and education authorities
  • Data-driven impact analysis
  • Storytelling and strategic marketing
  • Product development
  • Strategic application of AI and emerging technologies
  • Commercial expansion
  • Business model development
  • Fundraising, networking and organisational sustainability

Successful candidates will be those aligned with our values of offering quality education interventions, at scale, to all learners, but optimised for access and engagement by those in economically disadvantaged contexts

Strong preference will be given to African candidates based in, and familiar with, the education ecosystem in our relevant geographies (South Africa, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Uganda, Nigeria).
