Description

Girls Education International seeks a passionate, committed, and qualified individual to serve as the Chair of the Board of Directors. Girls Education International (Girls Ed) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, registered in Colorado, USA. 

ABOUT US 

  • Mission: Girls Ed expands and supports educational opportunities for girls and young women in remote and developing communities around the world.
  • Approach: We partner with community-based organizations that lead interventions targeting specific challenges girls face, with long-term impact and scale in mind. 
  • Strategic Plan: We are currently updating our 5-year strategic plan with program impact and organizational health in mind.
  • Leadership: The chair partners closely with the executive director as co-leads to ensure Girls Ed meets its mission, while fostering a vibrant and engaged board.
  • Culture: We intentionally cultivate a highly collaborative, inviting, positive, and engaged team culture.
  • Operations: We are a virtual, volunteer working board with a volunteer executive director. Our annual budget is $45,000. We schedule meetings to accommodate USA time zones (Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific).

 

ABOUT YOU

This position requires deep dedication, superior organizational skills, follow-through, and visionary thinking balanced with patience. The ideal candidate comes with nonprofit board experience, compassionate and strong leadership skills, and a commitment to contributing 4–5 hours per week, including attending and/or facilitating 2–3 virtual meetings monthly.

To be successful as the chair of the Girls Education International Board of Directors, you should have strong leadership and communication skills; the ability to motivate, support, and collaborate with team members; and experience with strategic planning and execution. 

 

Skills & Qualifications 

  • B.A./B.S (preferred)
  • 4+ years experience with nonprofit boards and/or board governance
  • Demonstrated interest in and dedication to the mission and vision of Girls Ed
  • Inspiring team leader and collaborative team player
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive leadership and DEI principles
  • Knowledge of nonprofit operations and financial management
  • Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising and development
  • Superb interpersonal skills
  • Cross-cultural communication competence and sensitivity
  • Facilitation and meeting management
  • Tech proficiency for virtual leadership
