Position Opportunity
JFCS is looking for a compassionate, mission-driven, bilingual individual to join our Refugee Team as a Bilingual Case Manager. You must be fluent in English as well as Ukrainian and Russian. You will assist local refugees qualified for federal and/or State funding with housing, employment; transportation access, government benefits, medical coverage, education including English language classes; financial literacy; and provide orientation to North American culture. All services to refugees are provided in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner and are conducted in compliance with our federal and state contracts. Timeliness, accuracy, attention to detail and diligence in service delivery and case-noting will be critical to your success. You are a collaborative team player with a can-do attitude and flexibility, who possesses quick critical thinking skills and the ability to identify creative solutions to complex challenges.
General Responsibilities
- Recruits program participants through internal referrals and outreach to eligible individuals within the Ukrainian community.
- Completes eligibility screenings and comprehensive intakes for all clients determined eligible services.
- Provides comprehensive case management services to program participants by researching community partners and making referrals to appropriate social service agencies, community-based organizations, and/or social service providers.
- Develops goal-oriented, client-centered self-sufficiency plans with each enrolled program participant addressing their long- and short-term needs and goals.
- Guides program participants through referrals, providing follow-up, check-ins, and assistance, ensuring all services are linguistically and culturally appropriate.
- Screens for direct client financial assistance eligibility in accordance with JFCS’s basic needs direct assistance rubric, facilitates disbursement, and conducts all necessary follow-up and associated financial reporting.
- Travel regularly throughout the service delivery area (for home visits, agency visits, service provider visits etc.)
- Maintains regular contact and positive rapport with a case load of assigned clients.
- Collaborates closely with other refugee and JFCS team members to facilitate enrollment and coordination of clients that may be enrolled across multiple programs, services or grants.
- Provides ongoing guidance and communications with volunteers assigned to your clients who may be helping with English tutoring, career mentorship and more, as needed.
- Completes case notes and required assessments in online databases in a timely and consistent manner.
- Maintains comprehensive case files for each enrolled client, ensuring client confidentiality and protection of personally identifiable information.
- Participates in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engages as a member of the Refugee Team. Participates in ongoing trainings, professional development opportunities, and partner meetings as required.
- Acquires comprehensive knowledge and thorough understanding of the eligibility and programmatic requirements of each government grant or program.
Skills/Abilities That are a Must-Haves:
- Fluent in English, Ukrainian and Russian
- Valid California Driver's license, positive driving record, and reliable vehicle with current registration and insurance
- Authority to work in the United States
- Compassion, empathy, and a commitment to diversity, humility and the recognition of the inherent dignity and agency of each client.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities and effectively manage time, and meet deadlines; strong attention to detail.
- Ability to contribute both independently and as a team member, to take initiative and follow instructions.
- Proven written and oral communication skills including the ability to modify the approach when working with diverse communities.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, customers, community service providers and/or businesses.
- Ability to work occasional early morning, weekend, or evening hours as needed.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to provide conflict resolution.
- Computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite and ability to navigate other database or software.
Bonus but not Required Skills/Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree OR at least 4 years of professional experience working as a case manager, social worker, or other position with direct client contact and experience.
- Lived experience as an immigrant, refugee, asylee, humanitarian parolee or experience working with immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers or other displaced individuals.
- Knowledge of nonprofit environment and/or social service resources in Orange CountyReports to: Director of Refugee ServicesStatus: Full-time, Regular, Non-ExemptLocation: Santa Ana, CA
Salary Scale: $48,500 to $58,500
