Director, The Shed in Warroad
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The mission of the Shed in Warroad is to collect, preserve and display classic automobiles
and related materials, while focusing to inspire and encourage public interest and for future
generations to recognize the importance within the design and manufacturing of the
transportation industry. The Shed was built to share vehicles collected by renowned collector,
Bob Marvin and his love for classic automobiles.
Position Summary:
The Director will report to the Board of Directors and have overall strategic and operational
responsibility for the The Shed in Warroad’s staff, volunteers, programs, execution of the
Mission and Strategic Plan.
General:
• Provides resources and guidance to the Shed to ensure that all practices comply with
professional standards and ethics.
• Maintains a positive working relationship with the Marvin Companies in supporting the
community.
• Oversees collections care and planning in line with the Strategic Plan and best practices.
This includes the maintenance and necessary repairs of both the collection and the facility
and industry standards of safety, efficiency and quality.
• Develops and nurtures strategic solid partners among similar organizations and community
members, benefiting all involved and raising the Shed’s profile and support.
• Nurtures relationships with the Shed’s donors and stakeholders to ensure they are satisfied
and understand the work of the Shed.
• Works with the Board of Directors to steward and increase donors, sponsors, and annual
gifts to ensure a healthy and balanced budget.
• Provides public lectures and education programs to highlight the Shed’s work and the
collection's unique nature.
• Represents the Shed in community events and celebrations, leveraging the collection when
appropriate to increase the Shed’s visibility off-site.
• Understands the need and actively works to be a part of the greater Warroad area
community.
Management:
• Hires, supervises, motivates, and reviews the staff. Evaluate needs, develops and mentors
staff accordingly.
• Oversees the relationship with the accounting company to pay all bills promptly and provide
financial statements to the board .
• Reviews and approves staff and volunteer work plans to ensure they align with resources
and the Strategic Plan.
• Reviews and approves all marketing, advertising, and development materials before
distribution.
Financial:
• Develops and manages budgets, oversees financial planning and accurate reporting and
further ensures responsible use of all resources.
• Budgets, seeks sponsorships, and oversees events, including delegating to a staff leader
for events to ensure leadership and accountability for each event.
• Understands and implements strong business and finance practices to ensure the long-term
financial stability of the Shed.
• Ensures compliance with non-profit regulations, legal requirements and ethical standards.
Prepares reports for the Board of Directors and funding entities as requires or requested.
Board of Directors Interaction:
• Develops and provides periodic reporting on budget, admissions, and other benchmarks for
success.
• Guides and supports the staff and Board committees in fulfilling the Strategic Plan through
annual work plans tied to the budget.
• Works with the Board Chair to develop meeting agendas and Board educational
opportunities.
• Provides periodic reports to the Board members during scheduled meetings.
Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in non-profit management,
business administration or a related field. Additional certifications in non-profit
management, grant writing and/or fundraising are a plus.
• Experience and/or strong interest in the automotive industry particularly with maintaining the
historical vehicles in the collection.
• Demonstrated experience and success in a leadership role in a non-profit or museum
setting with success in grant writing, fundraising, and financial management.
• Strong and demonstrated understanding of nonprofit financial management, including
budgeting, financial reporting and compliance.
• A collaborative style in managing teams, including professionals, volunteers, and working
with boards of directors, stakeholders, sponsors, and partners.
• Demonstrated high level of integrity and ethical standards.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and comfort with public speaking and media
interviews are required.
• Skilled in networking at all levels, including donors, community leaders, and corporate
officials.
• Proficient in all typical computer applications and equipment and an understanding of new
and emerging technologies is expected.

• The Shed offers competitive compensation commensurate with qualifications and
experience.
