Salary: $85,000
Transportation Alternatives (TA), New York City's leading advocate for walking, biking, and public transit, is seeking an Associate Director Membership and Marketing to join our development team. This role plays a key part in growing and engaging TA’s supporter base through compelling marketing, strong donor stewardship, and effective event promotion. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Associate Director of Membership and Marketing will lead strategies to attract, retain, and engage individual supporters, while aligning marketing efforts with TA’s fundraising and organizational goals.

Responsibilities
Content and Marketing
- Create marketing material for use across all development functions, including emails, social media posts, promotional materials, campaign content, landing pages, etc.
- Ensure development marketing activities are successfully integrated into the organization’s overall communications calendars and plans
- Serve as the liaison between the communications team and the development team
Membership & Major Gifts
- Play a key role in the creation of print and digital membership recruitment and retention campaign materials
- Play a key role in the evolution and management of the membership program, including identifying benefits and marketing the program
- Provide stellar customer service for TA members and constituents
- Support the implementation of annual fundraising campaigns, including membership recruitment and retention campaigns and the end of year appeal
Events & Partnerships
- Provide marketing support for events including Bike Month, TA’s annual benefit, conference, member party, and bike tours among others
- Build and maintain registration and marketing pages for fundraising events
- Develop, manage, and execute a deadline-driven marketing calendar for events, including writing and composing marketing emails, social media, and paid advertising
General Fundraising
- Manage TA gift shop, including the online interface and physical inventory. Organize and execute promotions like Black Friday, member sales, and other tactics to increase sales
- Recruit and manage annual marathon fundraising teams
- Represent TA at advocacy and partner events across all five boroughs
- Assist the Director of Development with tracking monthly fundraising progress and reconciliation of income with the finance team
- Collaborate with the Finance and Data teams to manage and maintain individual donor revenue and program activities in the organizational database
- Manage and supervise work of the Development Associate, once hired
Qualified candidates will bring with them:
- 5-7 years of work experience in a development or marketing role at a nonprofit
- A team player who possesses strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Self-directed, able to work independently on multiple projects, and able to set and adhere to deadlines
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment
- Superior organizational skills and an aptitude for process and systems
- High degree of emotional intelligence, professionalism, and level of confidentiality
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google suites
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with EveryAction or other CRMs
- Familiarity with Squarespace or other CMS
- Fluency in social media and email marketing
- Interest in TA’s mission to improve the livability of NYC through transportation infrastructure

- Fluency in SEO
- Experience managing staff
