The American Porphyria Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by Porphyria. With a global membership exceeding 17,500 across 120 countries, the APF focuses on education, advocacy, support services, and research to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and ultimately find a cure for all types of Porphyria.
Position Summary:
The Executive Director Assistant serves as the assistant to the chief executive officer of the APF, responsible for leading the organization in alignment with its mission and strategic goals. This role encompasses oversight of daily operations, program development, fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and staff management. Remove this whole sentence and replace with The Executive Director Assistant fosters relationships with patients, healthcare professionals, researchers, donors, and partner organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Assist in the development and implementation of strategic plans to advance the APF's mission.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Trustees to establish organizational goals and policies.
- Monitor industry trends and adjust strategies to meet emerging needs and report to Executive Director
- Program Oversight:
- Ensure the delivery of high-quality educational and support programs for patients and healthcare professionals.
- Assist Executive Director in overseeing initiatives, such as the Safe/Unsafe Drug Database, Emergency Room Guidelines, and the Protect the Future program aimed at educating physicians.
- Promote participation in research studies and clinical trials.
- Fundraising and Financial Management:
- Assist in promoting the fundraising strategies developed by the Executive Director, including donor cultivation, grant writing, and special events.
- Prepare the annual budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Board.
- Ensure financial sustainability and compliance with nonprofit regulations.
- Community and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Foster partnerships with other advocacy groups and research institutions.
- Staff and Volunteer Management:
- Collaborate with dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
- Cultivate a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture.
- Oversee recruitment, training, and performance management processes.
Qualifications:
- Experience not necessarily in health related industry
- Minimum of three years experience in leadership role in non profit, preferably health related non profit.
- Success in fundraising, grant acquisition, and donor relations preferred.
- Strong understanding of patient advocacy or healthcare education.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in financial management and strategic planning.
- Ability to travel as necessary for conferences and stakeholder meetings.
