Description

Haven Youth and Family Services has been serving youth and their families since 1976. What began as an outreach program for youth has continued to grow and develop to include programs such as crisis response and prevention; after school and weekend drop-in center; youth employment support; individual, group, and family counseling; emergency housing services; 24-hour crisis intervention; outreach to area schools; psycho-educational workshops; youth leadership; and service-learning opportunities. 

This is an unpaid internship.

In addition to supporting the mission and values of Haven, the primary responsibilities of the Youth Counselor Interns at Haven are:

Direct Service:

  • Provide supervision, structure, and support for drop-in center participants
  • Work with supervisor to facilitate existing and develop new recreational programming to meet participant interests and needs
  • Provide outreach and support services to school aged youth and their families
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or Clinical Director

Professional Characteristics:

  • Maintains effective boundaries when sharing information with staff, other providers, site supervisors, and members of the community
  • Demonstrate deference to punctuality and consistency with attendance
  • Attend individual and group supervision sessions and other meetings as scheduled and prepared with notes, questions, etc.
  • Present a case for consultation every 6 weeks, or as assigned, following the guidelines of the case conceptualization form
  • Complete all documentation and paperwork in a timely, concise manner
  • Demonstrate consideration of professional persona in all public facing outlets including social media
  • Demonstrate willingness to offer support and acceptance to all people regardless of race, culture, gender, or sexuality and demonstrate the capacity to challenge personal biases in order to do so in a safe, professional manner
  • Conform with the Code of Ethics for your profession, your university, and for child welfare as published by the IL DCFS

Haven Interns are directly accountable to the Clinical Director and Training Coordinator

The requirements for the Youth Counselor Interns at Haven:

  • Current enrollment in an Education, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related graduate or undergraduate program and seeking direct programming experience.
