Summary:

The Volunteer Programs Manager leads the development and implementation of NFTE’s volunteer engagement programs with the goal of driving high program quality and donor cultivation. This role will collaborate with national and regional development and program teams to ensure volunteer programs are implemented with fidelity and to share best practices across the organization. The Manager will also collaborate with research, evaluation and curriculum to develop a robust set of tools, programs, training and other resources to implement high-quality volunteer initiatives.

Volunteerism is vital to the success of all NFTE programs and the student experience. Through internal qualitative and quantitative studies, we know that NFTE students who benefit from time with volunteers increase their knowledge gains by an average of 9% and students share that time with caring adults is among the most valued and impactful parts of the program. We also know that volunteers benefit from participating too. Corporate volunteer programs are proven to help employees develop stronger professional and leadership skill sets and better prepare for future leadership roles. Further data show that 89% of employees believe that companies who sponsor volunteer activities offer a better overall working environment than those who do not and 87% of volunteers say there is an overlap between their time volunteering and their financial support.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Volunteer Program Management

    1. Develop annual volunteer engagement goals (organizationally and in local markets)
    2. Develop internal training to deliver best in class experience for volunteers and NFTE participants, i.e. strong participant experience at all points of cycle: recruitment, training, session and follow-up
    3. Manage the organizational volunteer policies and procedures, i.e. code of conduct, media release, background checks, etc.
    4. Manage the Volunteer of the Year award program and recognition activities
    5. Collaborate with research on the study and analysis of volunteer programming to highlight impact and understand volunteer feedback for program improvement
    6. Competition Programs Support
      • Collaborate with program, development and event teams on business plan challenge series (Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge)
    7. Identify and promote best practices in the field of volunteer management

 

Volunteer Program Materials

    1. Collaborate with curriculum development team to understand suite of programs and how volunteers can be most impactful
    2. Develop and update both curriculum-aligned and general volunteer session materials, including handouts, presentation decks and toolkits, i.e. EY Connect Day format and toolkit, Innovation Day format and toolkit, etc.
    3. Create, update and maintain volunteer orientation and training materials for a variety of volunteer opportunities, including virtual options
    4. Work with marketing to create and standardize marketing, outreach and appreciation materials
    5. Collaborate with alumni services to enhance volunteer opportunities that serve alumni and engage alumni as volunteers

 

Local Capacity Implementation Support

    1. Collaborate with regional offices to develop local volunteer plans aligned with organizational goals and priorities
    2. Support volunteer program execution for high priority stakeholders and events (EY Connect Day, Youth Entrepreneurship Summits, etc.)
    3. Support volunteer program execution in markets with lean staffing
    4. Support competition program execution at the national level and in markets with lean staffing

 

Partner with development to support volunteer efforts related to cultivation, grant deliverables and partnership stewardship

    1. Collaborate on corporate engagement proposals, planning, training and execution
    2. Work directly with multi-regional and national partners on customized volunteer program development and implementation
    3. Provide quantitative and qualitative data to support funding requests and grant reports
    4. Develop volunteer-to-donor strategy and pilot plan

 

Volunteer Systems Management

    1. Manage HandsOn Connect/Salesforce, NFTE’s volunteer management system
      • Manage data input, integrity and reporting
      • Collaborate with users and IT to continually improve system
      • Manage website (volunteer.nfte.com)
      • Provide training for staff on system usage
    2. Background check systems management (Sterling Volunteers)

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Additional Requirements:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in membership or marketing industry
  • 3-5 years’ experience with schools or teaching or working with educational institutions preferred
  • Experience liaising with corporate social responsibility teams
  • Experience with Salesforce or another volunteer management system Proven experience in volunteer program management a plus
  • Enthusiasm for the NFTE mission and the opportunity to build an innovative volunteer program
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Proven ability to think strategically, problem-solve and manage multiple projects
  • Familiarity and/or interest in business concepts and educational policy preferred
  • Capacity to deal with ambiguity
