Overview

Susan G. Komen® Dallas County is committed to providing underinsured and uninsured residents of Dallas County with vital breast health services. The role of the Volunteer Coordinator is to serve as the primary contact and coordinator for all volunteer related needs of the Affiliate and to provide limited administrative support.

Primary Responsibilities

  • The volunteer coordinator has two main areas of focus:
    • YEAR ROUND REQUESTS: Research and analyze volunteer requests received year round from the community to determine best use of Affiliate resources and service to mission and seek out opportunities for Affiliate volunteer engagement
    • RACE (July-October): Manage the 700+ volunteers for largest fundraiser, Susan G. Komen Dallas Race for the Cure®. This entails:
      • Oversee Race Volunteer Chair & Committee of the Race Committee
      • Attend all after-hours Race Committee meetings
      • Primary contact for all volunteer needs on Race Day
      • Create and fill all Race volunteer jobs
      • Maintain Race volunteer database in Convio
  • Duties also include, but are not limited to:
    • Observe and build upon existing volunteer policies & procedures as set forth by the Affiliate and Komen Headquarters
    • Recruit, interview and match volunteers to appropriate opportunities
    • Cultivation of volunteer leadership
    • Provide training, ongoing support, guidance, engagement, retention, recruitment, and recognition for volunteers
    • Maintain, manage, and communicate all volunteer information
    • Public speaking and community outreach required
    • Support various Affiliate administrative duties, including filing, checking mail, scanning invoices, scanning donations, preparing acknowledgments, maintaining office supplies, as needed
    • Support office departments by performing overflow work assignments, as needed

Education/Experience

  • Strongly prefer Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university or in process of obtaining same or 2-3 years of experience managing volunteers
  • Strongly prefer prior non-profit experience, and particularly in the area of managing volunteers for large-scale events
  • Public speaking experience required

 Technical Skills

  • Strongly prefer bilingual candidate fluent in English & Spanish
  • Comfortable with and quickly learn computer systems. Prior experience using Convio and SalesForce or similar systems a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Email, Word, Excel and PowerPoint). Must be able to perform tasks such as mail merges, simple excel functions such as sorting and basic formula calculations, and can easily prepare PowerPoint presentations from start to finish

 

 Requirements

  • An interest in and commitment to Susan G. Komen’s Promise to end breast cancer forever and to the Dallas County Affiliate's vision and its strategic plan
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Comfortable interacting with a variety of communities, individuals, volunteers, staff, board members and the media
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
  • Highly organized and with exceptional attention to detail
  • Prior experience handling and managing schedules strongly preferred
  • Works well under time pressure and in environment where multiple projects assigned by multiple people
  • Easily adapts to changes in decisions and strategic plans
  • Able to represent the Dallas County Affiliate at events and meetings as needed. Travel throughout the Dallas County area is required. Must have Texas Driver’s License.
  • Capable of working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed to meet Affiliate needs. Overtime required during peak time of year.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds

Compensation/Benefits

  • Bi-weekly pay. Starting rate of $15 per hour with opportunity for growth subject to job performance
  • Travel and expense reimbursement
  • Business casual dress code
