Description

The Thomas Cole National Historic Site seek a full time Visitor Center Manager. The position offers the opportunity to join a dynamic team at a beautiful historic site in Catskill, New York, in the scenic Hudson Valley. The Visitor Center (VC) Manager is responsible for visitor-oriented operations in the Visitor Center, management of the physical and online gift shops, and regular updating of the organization’s website and other online platforms. The ideal candidate is interested in art, history, the local area, and retail business management. This position requires excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, analytical thinking, and the use of personal computers and mobile devices. The ability to work both independently and cooperatively with other members of the education staff is essential. Essential responsibilities include providing professional and friendly service to visitors, ringing in orders and tracking inventory and sales using Square, managing visitor reservations in Eventbrite, maintaining and developing the online Shopify store, updating thomascole.org in WordPress, and using a spreadsheet program to record and analyze quantitative information. From April to November, the VC Manager works primarily in the Visitor Center, where s/he welcomes and orients visitors, processes ticket and gift shop sales, and provides accurate and helpful information about the Historic Site and surrounding area. S/he also oversees the VC staff, manages inventory, orders products, fulfills online orders, keeps records, submits invoices, receipts, and sales reports to the Bookkeeper, and updates the organization’s online platforms with current information. From December to March, when the VC is closed, the VC Manager continues to maintain the website and online store, fulfills online orders, analyzes past gift shop performance, and develops plans and strategies to expand and improve the retail operation.
