JOB SPECIFICATION

POSITION: Vice President of Development

DEPARTMENT:  Development                               

LOCATION: San Antonio or North Texas

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

EEO Classification: Professional

FLSA STATUS: Exempt, Full-time $135K – 150K

 

Purpose: The Vice President of Development is a member of the Great Hearts Texas senior leadership team and is responsible for building and maintaining philanthropic partnerships throughout Texas. The Vice President is also responsible for managing the philanthropic strategy as agreed to by the Superintendent, which includes the overall vision and execution for campus giving.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and grow relationships with major funders – individual, corporate and foundations – and work with a portfolio of major donor prospects.
  • Directly supervise GHTX Annual Campaign Director and Directors of Academy Giving in their work with prospective donors, donor research, solicitations, and stewardship.
  • Work at the direction of Superintendent and Texas and in collaboration with senior team to establish and meet annual fundraising and stewardship goals.
  • Regularly meet with Chief Development Officer Great Hearts Foundation to collaborate and coordinate efforts.
  • Direct and support team Grants Manager on all individual, foundation, state, and federal grants; to include review and pre-approval of proposals before they are sent, and to ensure all grant reporting requirements are met with quality and submitted on-time.
  • Collaborate with Great Hearts America VP of Development on the following:
    • Understand Great Hearts America’s capabilities, resources, and strengths to solve problems and serve partner/client needs
    • Setting shared goals.
    • Ensuring GHTX maintains current information on development practices and procedures.
    • The continued effort of developing processes and procedures as needed.
    • Providing training for staff, board, and volunteer leadership to increase their knowledge and effectiveness in solicitation and development activities.
  • Serve as a key external-facing representative for the organization; including – but not limited to - cultivating relationships with faculty, parents, community members, media, prospective donors, and volunteers to effectively communicate the mission and build a strong reputation for Great Hearts across the state of Texas.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum)
  • Preferably a focus in nonprofit management, marketing, communications, or related field

 

Work-Related Experience:

-Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working for/with non-profits

-Excellent oral and written communication skills, problem solving and presentation skills

-Outgoing, relationship-oriented personality with the highest degree of personal integrity; capacity to take initiative, prioritize duties, and work independently while functioning as a member of the leadership team

-Proficiency in data analysis and reporting

-Experience with grant writing, implementation, and reporting

-Demonstrated experience as a development/marketing/community/public relations executive with ability to effectively create an implement major gifts program, creating and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan and working productively and professionally with board members and staff

 

Preferred Work Experience:

-Donor database management experience

-Development and execution of Strategic Plans

-Experience in endowments, capital campaigns and planned to give

 

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or financial reports.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence and appropriate donor communications.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of donors, volunteers, staff, participants, families, the media, and members of the community at large.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variable in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions.  Strong ability to organize, plan, track and report.  Must be able to effectively manage multiple projects in a timely manner and frequently make expedited adjustments when necessary.  Must possess critical thinking and data analysis skills.

Computer Skills:  Strong proficiency with computer skills including extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Drive (Docs/Sheets/Slides) and donor databases. Experience managing social media outlets is preferred.

Additional Requirements

Type of fingerprint clearance: Must successfully pass a Texas DPS background and fingerprint screening.

 

Physical functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

 

Travel required: May need to travel approx. 20% between San Antonio, North Texas and nationally.
