  Job Synopsis:

MCC Appalachia's SWAP (Sharing With Appalachian People) program coordinates week-long service opportunities for young people and adults, to provide housing repair for low-income individuals and families. MCC is also looking to connect with other ministries related to economic development and/or food security and would welcome location coordinators with these interests and backgrounds. The Hindman Location Coordinators will report directly to the Appalachia Program Coordinator in all aspects of this assignment. These positions will plan and direct all aspects of the SWAP ministry in Hindman, Kentucky. Because of the SWAP partnership with the Hindman United Methodist Church this position necessitates involvement and worshipping with this partner church. Involvement with the Hindman Settlement School (another SWAP partner) is also expected. In the SWAP "off-season", this position may be developed in various ways depending on the gifts and interests of the applicants. LCs will help with promotions work along with other MCC staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Summer SWAP season
As Location Coordinators in Hindman, Kentucky, be proficient in overseeing all aspects of the MCC SWAP home repair and volunteer program within the parameters of the location budget, including:

• Coordinate the planning and preparation for service groups that will arrive each week in the summer
planning all aspects of the week: community repair assignments, staffing needs, food, lodging, and
evening worship and reflection times
• Work with community agencies, residents, and churches in the selection of work sites
• Supervise and support summer staff
• Maintain location records, which will be submitted to Appalachia Program Coordinator,
Administrative Assistant and Financial Services.
• Maintain regular communication with the Appalachia Program Coordinator
• Prepare regular reflection reports for the location
• Oversee maintenance and/or replacement of tools, building materials, equipment, and vehicles at
location
• Arrange for the purchasing of building materials, maintenance, and proper storage at location
• Oversee maintenance of MCC property and vehicles at location
• Contribute location budget information as required

This position will lead the coordination of MCC SWAP promotional & development activities under the direction of the PCs and in cooperation with the LC team.
Specific ideas include:
• Provide support for the Hindman United Methodist Church as needed, which could include maintenance of facilities or other church projects
• Maintain existing relationship with Hindman United Methodist Church as an MCC local partner providing a base of operations for SWAP
• Nurture partnership with the Hindman Settlement School
• Work on promotional items as needed including, visits, calls, contacts, supporting assigned
promotional leaders as requested

In addition, Location Coordinators participate in the following general/shared MCC SWAP duties:
• Be a part of a team (other LCs and PCs) to select and place summer staff
• Meet with other Location Coordinators throughout the year together with the Program Coordinators to discuss ideas, needs, victories, struggles, and share/support others in a similar role
• Be available by phone/email to other LCs/SWAP staff for mutual support and consultation
• Assist with MCC SWAP summer staff orientation week and, with the aid of other LCs, organize their training (meal preparation, site coordination, leading of group discussions, purchase and transportation of materials, supervision of work groups, financial record keeping, dynamics of poverty etc.) according to the SWAP summer staff training materials.
• Represent MCC's SWAP at short term missions conferences, colleges, or other events when available
• Promotions during MCC SWAP 'off seasons' (generally Sept to May)
• Attend and support all MCC Great Lakes meetings, gatherings and retreats as required
• Other duties as requested by the Program Coordinator or as needed by the local partner
