Description

Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a nonprofit law firm on Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles. We are looking for extraordinary people to help us end homelessness in Los Angeles. Founded on the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect, ICLC fights for justice for low-income tenants, working-poor families, people experiencing homelessness, people living with HIV/AIDS, people who are disabled, and homeless veterans.

Position Description: ICLC seeks a talented full-time Supervising Attorney to serve our clients who are experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk of homelessness. Working in partnership with homeless service providers, the Supervising Attorney will provide holistic legal services to tackle barriers to our clients becoming and staying housed.

In addition to participating in community outreach events, including legal clinics, and developing relationships with service providers, the Supervising Attorney will handle and supervise attorneys and paralegals with creative problem solving and litigation to address novel issues as well as the following routine items: landlord tenant issues such as eviction, harassment, illegal lockouts and citation; minor citations and tickets; criminal record expungement and clearing; securing professional licenses and resolving legal barriers impacting employment; reasonable accommodations issues (requests and appeals) for mental, physical and health related disabilities; immigration issues that directly impact housing, income, benefits, and employment eligibility; credit/debt issues that negatively impact income such as collection, garnishments, student loan debt, as well as fines and fees associated with citations/infractions/parking tickets.

Hiring Criteria: Commitment to ICLC’s mission and values, and a willingness to provide holistic client-centered legal services with kindness and a trauma-informed approach in order to communicate and connect effectively with our clients. A minimum of six years of experience in public benefits law and/or housing law. Significant civil or administrative hearing, and some immigration experience is required. Ability to handle a large and varied caseload and assume responsibility quickly, both independently and as part of a team. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Comfort and readiness to participate in a creative and aggressive civil litigation, including restraining orders and unlawful detainer trials. Membership in the California Bar or another State Bar is required.

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits.
