Emergence is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SUDS Counselor to provide encouragement and assistance to help participants in treatment court achieve long-term recovery, connect with the local recovery community, and navigate local resources. EMERGENCE is willing to train the right person.

$3,500 Sign On BONUS, $1,500 on your first regular paycheck and $2,000 after 6 months

Substance Abuse Counselor Position Highlights:

Substance Abuse Counselor Responsibilities:

  • Managing all aspects of a case from date of entry to date of discharge.
  • Evaluating patients' physical and mental behaviors.
  • Developing appropriate treatment and recovery plans.
  • Facilitating individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Monitoring patients over time to access treatment progress.
  • Collaborating with psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and departments of correction.
  • Identifying behaviors that interfere with treatment and recovery.
  • Assisting primary caregivers to manage addiction-related behavior.

Substance Abuse Counselor Requirements:

  • Minimum one-year experience in behavioral health care setting.
  • Minimum one-year experience with co-occurring disorders.
  • Ability to be certified in the specific competency within 6 months of hire.
  • Previous experience with the treatment of substance abuse disorders preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASAM diagnostic criteria.
  • Application of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services’ (SAMHSA) best practice indicators.
  • In-depth knowledge of drug and alcohol testing to monitor treatment plans and medical instructions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature.

Preferred Training:

  • Associate degree in chemical dependency counseling, or a bachelor's degree with coursework in chemical dependency preferred, but not required.
  • QMHA and CADC-I preferred, but not required.
  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or similar preferred, but not required.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record systems like Carelogic would be advantageous.
