About The Role
Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Sr. Principal, Office of the President will collaborate, advise, and support the CEO and the C-Suite in advancing the mission of the organization. In this critical role, the Sr. Principal will oversee efforts to streamline, align, and communicate strategic initiatives between departments and provide expertise and consultation in the development of organizational wide goals and objectives. In addition, this role will support the CEO to liaise with the Board of Directors and serve as lead on special projects. Finally, the Sr. Principal, will oversee and supervise the policy function.

Required skills & qualifications:

  • Ten to 12 years of experience in non-profit leadership, strategy, operations, and project management.
    5+ years of policy and systems change experience advancing national social impact, including experience in a government setting or external advocacy role.
  • Experience in policy and systems change strategies with ability to identify opportunities by reading external environments and to tackle complex issues via strong project management skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
  • Experience in managing special projects, developing organizational goals, advising leaders on best practices for aligning strategies and work plans, and identifying and creating organizational efficiencies.
  • Acumen and finesse to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously, mix long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands.
  • Ability to build strong and sustainable relationships and the capability to interact within all levels of the organization and with external constituents.
  • Knowledge of financial management and strategic planning.
  • Able to successfully navigate within varying degrees of ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communicator in written and verbal form.
  • Proven experience as a collaborative, facilitative leader, who can drive results in alignment with company culture.

The Primary Job Duties:
1. Organize and facilitate key C-Suite priorities and cross functional projects

  • Strategically respond to and prioritize the high-volume demand for the President and CEO's time, ensuring that the President and CEO focus on the most impactful areas to drive organizational growth and impact.
  • Facilitate projects, operations and/or commitments directly involving the President and CEO, Chiefs, and Sr. Leadership Team.
  • Proactively identify issues that could impact the successful execution of the President and CEO's agenda and the organization's strategy and annual operating plan.
  • In conjunction with the President and C-Suite, identify key organizational metrics to track to facilitate strong management and decision making.
  • Package high level briefs and organizational data to facilitate Executive Team decision-making and for presentation to staff.
  • Compile regular reports from departments and takes steps to ensure maximum efficiency, harmony, and good workflow.
  • Work with the C-Suite and other key stakeholders to identify and lift-up issues negatively impacting progress. Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to identify the root causes of issues and present the C-Suite with alternative means of resolving identified problems.
  • Assist in executing projects directed by the President and CEO that typically require cross-functional collaboration and resource allocation.
  • Assist in translating President and CEO's annual goals into actionable business priorities.
  • Develop and oversee the budget for the Office of President.
  • Support the President in coordinating activities, setting agendas, and summarizing deliverables for C-Suite, Senior Leadership Team, and other staff meetings.
  • Maintain continuous lines of communication, keeping the President and CEO informed of all critical issues.

2. Manage stakeholder engagement

  • In collaboration with the External Engagement team, track and oversee a broad spectrum of external outreach, leverage stakeholder relationships to generate new leads, and deepen relationships.
  • Work closely with the Sr. Executive Assistant to ensure the appropriate management of the President and CEO's calendar to meet all priorities.
  • Represent the President and CEO with external stakeholders, board members, public officials, and other partners in person and in writing.
  • Develop draft communication on behalf of the President and CEO to staff, to the board, and external stakeholders.
  • Develop strategic plan for external engagement of the President and CEO.

3. Serve as the Board Liaison

  • Support the President and CEO with strategic engagement with the Board of Directors.
    Develop regular President and CEO updates to the board.
  • Oversee preparation for all Board of Director meetings.
  • Staff the board Governance and Nominating Committee along with the President and CEO.
  • Support the President and C-Suite + SLT to prepare for board meeting.

4. Policy Oversight/Staff Management and Development

  • Oversee and monitor the advancement of the educational policy landscape, providing consultation and thought leadership on issues critical to our network.
  • Supervise external policy consultant groups and an internal Senior Policy analyst position within the President’s Office.
  • Build annual goals and drive accountability with outside federal and state consultants operating on behalf of the National Office and CIS Network.
  • Provide oversight of the process for distributing state legislative support grants to the network with the assistance of the Student Supports Team.
  • Coordinate engagement with State/Federal legislators and government officials advocating on behalf of continued investment in the CIS Model of Integrated Student Supports.
  • Oversee the selection, development, and assessment of qualified staff for the President's Office, assigning clear roles and responsibilities, providing effective supervision to ensure efficient operations within the office.
