Title: Social Media Strategist

Reports to: Senior Communications Manager

Location: Fully remote 

Classification: Full time, salaried (exempt)

 

Overall Responsibility

RefugePoint seeks a full-time Social Media Strategist to join its growing Development and Communications team. This position will be responsible for owning and evolving RefugePoint’s online voice and social media presence. The ideal candidate for this position will have a combination of excellent writing, branding, multimedia, and graphic design skills, and a track record of success in creating engaging social media content and growing social media audiences. The ideal candidate has expertise in digital marketing and understands how social media plays into the larger scope of a communications strategy and its long-term objectives.

This role will work closely with our programs staff to craft content aligned with our organizational and Communications-specific strategies. 

This role will focus on developing and implementing a strategy for growing our existing audiences and acquiring new audiences to share our message, help raise money, and mobilize existing and new supporters. 

This Job Might Be For You If:

  • You have graphic design and branding skills and experience. You’ll bring your own ideas and concepts for graphics that tell our story while following a strategy. 
  • You can create both written content and graphics quickly and without the need for many rounds of review and edits.
  • You are good at planning, monitoring, and executing social media strategies and content development (text, image, blog, and video), which supports our organizational goals and strategy.
  • You can develop long-term goals, strategies, and tactics, and ensure that content is consistent with established identity, branding, and voice.
  • You like working as part of a team towards shared goals but can also work well independently.
  • You have excellent verbal, writing, and interpersonal communications skills, strong attention to detail, ability to write and deliver work under deadlines, and commitment to high-quality standards.
  • You have a strong sense of initiative and an outcomes-oriented mindset.
  • You are flexible and can provide off-hour support during times of emerging news/crises.

You’re Good At:

  • Using your graphic design skills to present content in engaging and creative ways.
  • Writing and editing impactful content that requires minimal revision.
  • Crafting and implementing creative, multi-faceted social strategies for educating our audiences (including staff), live events, and media campaigns.
  • Tracking and analyzing the success of social media and online engagement initiatives. 
  • Positioning RefugePoint as a thought leader on core social media channels.
  • Actively managing communities to answer questions, provide information and ensure follower satisfaction, and engage in conversations about relevant topics.
  • Exercising judgment in breaking news and rapid response environments.
  • Monitoring emerging trends and platforms across social and activities of other nonprofits to share best practices and optimize performance.
  • Creating and implementing online advertising strategies.
  • Generating email lists and social media audience growth.

You Have Experience With:

  • Social media, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field (3+ years)
  • Producing social media content for professional social media profiles on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn, ideally for a nonprofit or advocacy organization. Bonus if you are also familiar with other platforms, like TikTok.
  • Effective and impactful digital storytelling.
  • Managing social listening and monitoring and sharing insights.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across departments, cultures, and functions in a dynamic environment.
  • SEO, keyword research, WordPress, and Google Analytics.
  • Experience using and evaluating emerging social media platforms and software, (like Buffer/Hootsuite). 
  • Experience with graphic design and the Adobe Creative Suite of applications (bonus, not required).
  • Video and/or photo editing experience (bonus, not required).
  • The implementation of digital ad campaigns.

Compensation:

At RefugePoint, we strive to reward our employees equitably and transparently. This means that we pay our employees based on a clear and consistent methodology and without regard to identity or personal relationships. The starting salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000.
