COMPENSATION RANGE: $120,000 - $140,000

 

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

 

The Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund (the Federation) supports a vision of diverse and dynamic Bay Area Jewish communities, deeply engaged in Jewish life and doing good locally, in Israel and around the world. A newly defined strategic direction positions the Federation to achieve this vision by mobilizing innovation, collaboration, and community investment with focus on three intersecting areas:

  • Collaborating with partners to build connection and belonging in order to dramatically increase the number of young people engaged in Jewish life; and
  • Leading or funding core components that foster the resilience and security of Jewish communities, both locally and globally.

 

The Federation is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual with a variety of skill sets who wants to join a team working to build a new model of 21st century and next generation Federation engagement.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

Under the direction of the Senior Manager, Philanthropy Accounting, the Manager, Investment Accounting is responsible for the day-to-day investment operations, accounting, and reporting for the endowment, donor advised funds, and supporting organizations of the Federation.  The Manager supervises a team of senior and staff accountants who are responsible for recording all investment and related fund accounting activity and providing timely reporting.  This position is responsible for the implementation of instructions from the JCF Investment Committee and various external investment advisors concerning transactions within and between multiple investment portfolios.

 

MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

This role has managerial responsibilities for team with functional responsibilities for investment and fund accounting operations.

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Responsible for day-to-day investment accounting for the endowment, donor advised funds, and supporting organizations of the Federation.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve the timeliness and accuracy of the department’s investing functions.
  • Prepare and maintain investment schedules, workpapers, and reconciliations to process periodic investment allocations.
  • Initiate investment transactions (including sales, purchases, and transfers), for review and authorization by the Chief Finance and Investment Officer, Controller, and Senior Director, Philanthropy Accounting.
  • Review and approve all journal entries related to investment activities and analyze their impact on the general ledger and consolidated financial statements.
  • Monitor asset balances and liquidity within the various brokerage, custody, and investment accounts.
  • Work in conjunction with the Controller and Senior Director, Philanthropy Accounting on the monthly and quarterly closing of the consolidated general ledger. Responsible for annual audit packages, including lead sheets and reconciliations of all accounts related to donor advised funds, endowment, and supporting organizations investments and related activities. Assist in the production of consolidated financial statements.
  • Manage and coordinate the work of external contractors, as appropriate. Establish monthly and quarterly workplans to ensure timely reporting. Ensure the accuracy of reports to JCF clients.
  • Liaison with investment managers/advisors, donors and third-party service providers.
  • Monitor investment portfolios to ensure compliance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Review reconciliations, journal entries and reports prepared by Philanthropy Investment accounting team.
  • Work as a member of the finance and accounting team of JCF to ensure the accuracy, completeness and timeliness of all financial activity of the organization.
  • Respond to requests for information and carry out special projects as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Ability to develop and implement effective accounting and investment procedures.
  • Experience with MicroEdge FIMS platform a plus.
  • Managerial experience with demonstrated ability to select, develop, motivate, mentor and retain high performing staff.
  • Ability to problem solve and create systems to improve the operations of the finance and accounting areas.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • CPA preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in investment and accounting.
  • Experience in non-profit financial accounting strongly preferred.
