Position Summary

Functioning within an agency service structure, be a thought partner to 4 internal revenue generating clients and service teams. Provide marketing and communication leadership through strategic advising, tactical planning and implementation of all marcomms activities. Provide a high-level of marcomms expertise realized through the exemplary project management of integrated programs and campaigns. Map, expand and grow audience segments through the use of fresh and compelling content delivered via digital and traditional communication channels [including website, social media, blogs, email, public relations, collateral, opinion/thought leadership pieces, advertising, video, webinars, and events].

Work to increase awareness of the Tides brand and amplify our Vision, Mission and Approach to enhance engagement and deepen relationships with key audiences. As a steward and ambassador of the Tides’ brand, ensure alignment and integration of branding [voice, look and feel] across all communication channels. Lead digital strategy, planning, and implementation, issue-area focused narratives, and non-PR crisis communications. Partner with Director on video production, department budget management, and other activities in support of a dynamic and growing organization. Manage Marketing & Evaluations Specialist and provide department leadership with Director.

Essential Functions 

MARCOMMS STRATEGY, PLANNING & IMPLEMENTATION

  • Work on the External Marketing and Communications team with the Manager External Marketing and Communications and the Marketing & Evaluations Specialist; manage the latter with focus on performance and professional development
  • Support internal clients through an agency model that aligns writers and designers with the work building consistency, trust and confidence in service delivery
  • Provide strategic consulting, planning and implementation of high-impact marcomms plans and other activities for 4 internal client teams
    • Provide communications expertise to Client Services’ Advisors for their clients, funds, and grantees to support service goals and clients’ needs
    • Provide marcomms input and perspective to the Legal team
    • Provide direction to Tides Advocacy on marketing communications activities; assist in the creation of their marcomms annual budget to ensure the availability of adequate resources for planned activities
    • Explore new ways to support internal clients
  • Build partnerships across Tides by exhibiting strong marcomms instincts and a willingness to collaborate for stronger impact and outcomes
  • Frame complex communications problems yielding areas of opportunity and recommend practical solutions toward desired outcomes
  • Seamlessly integrate digital and traditional communication channels into planning including website, social media [including influencers], blogs, email, public relations, collateral, opinion/thought leadership pieces, advertising, video, webinars, and events
  • Support the editorial calendar process by providing storytelling opportunities amplifying partner work from internal clients
    • Review all content for consistency and tie into strategic themes
    • Work with internal authors, external experts, and writers
  • Partner with PR/Media Team Member to support non-PR related crisis communications
  • With Director, identify opportunities for use of video in brand and partner storytelling; identify appropriate channels to achieve maximum reach and impact
  • Project manage activities reflecting strong time management skills that generate timely delivery of work product

Digital Marketing

  • Champion the development and management of the Tides brand digital strategy and plan including audience mapping, segmentation, and measurement of impact on goals
  • Serve as the gatekeeper to digital channels ensuring the most effective and efficient use of them in reaching segment/audience goals
    • Identify ways to reach current clients, prospects, and relevant networks and drive them to our website and social media platforms for deeper engagement
    • Manage a robust and on message enewsletter plan across all segments/audiences with specific ownership of 2 Client Service teams; collaborate with External Communications Manager on additional 2 Client Services Teams
    • Design and implement Google Adwords, social media ads and content to drive brand awareness and generate marketing leads
    • Develop and implement email and automated marketing campaigns across targeted audience cohorts to reach engagement and retention goals
  • Use and direct the refined Measurement and Evaluation Framework for goal setting, measuring outcomes, and reporting results of marketing efforts; ensure framework is effective in measuring the segment/audience journey
  • Ensure personas remain relevant
  • With Marketing and Evaluations Specialist and Sr. Creative Manager, identify, onboard, and maximize the use of all digital partner firms and subcontractors; negotiate contracts and provide review of performance

CROSS DEPARTMENT COLLABORATION

  • Collaborate with Tides’ departments as required: Internal Marketing and Communication, Innovation and Learning, IT, Legal, and Finance

DEPARTMENT, PLANNING, BUDGET PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT

  • Assist the Director in the development of the MarComms Department strategic plan [goals, strategies, and tactics] and annual budget; provide support in the achievement of goals and in the management of the budget to ensure efficient and effective use of resources
  • Participate in the development of department strategic plans
  • Alongside the Director, create structures and processes for the MarComms Team to operate more effectively and efficiently

  • Serve on Task Forces and Work Teams as invited

Education and Experience

  • Master’s Degree in marketing or communications
  • 10-12 years of broad-based marketing and communications experience
  • Nonprofit sector and B2C experience a plus
  • Financial sector experience a plus
  • Staff management experience
  • Experience in digital marketing
  • Experience in video production
  • Familiarity with database marketing/CRMs a plus
  • Fluent in MS Office suite of products
  • Fluent in Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Experience with WordPress or other website CMS
  • Familiar with CRM/Database Management practices
  • Experience with marketing automation platforms like HubSpot a plus
  • Video editing expertise a plus
