The Senior Manager, Community Health Evaluation is a member of the Data Science & Impact team within Komen’s Mission division. The Data Science and Impact team supports Komen’s role as an evidence-based organization by transforming data into meaningful intelligence that will guide program strategy, convey Komen’s impact and facilitate the use of data to fuel scientific discoveries and improve breast cancer outcomes.
The primary objective of the Senior Manager, Community Health Evaluation is to support Susan G. Komen in achieving our overall Vision and Mission by:
Serving as a subject matter expert for Komen in the Monitoring and Evaluation of Community Health Programs.
Collaborating with inter-and intra-departmental teams to build Komen Headquarters, Field Offices and Affiliate Network capacity to evaluate and improve sustainable public health programs at the community, regional, and national level.
Developing and implementing strategies to communicate the outcomes and impact of Komen’s community/public health portfolio for multiple audiences.
Assessing alignment of mission activities with Komen’s mission strategy; and examining trends and developments in public health monitoring and evaluation methods and their application.
Hiring, managing, and coaching a team of staff to execute Community Health evaluation activities.
Providing accurate information to the Development teams to support efforts to illustrate the importance and impact of Komen’s programs in support of the Bold Goal.
Promoting an organizational culture that values trust, commitment to the mission, scientific integrity, and professional and organizational growth.
Serves as a subject matter expert for Komen in the areas of Community Health Monitoring and Evaluation.
Conducts research that advances the understanding of evidence-based interventions that will eliminate breast cancer disparities.
Manages community-related survey initiatives such as Affiliates, grantee and stakeholder surveys including survey design, data collection, analysis, and reporting
Identifies gaps and weaknesses in current evaluation processes/procedures utilizing methods appropriate for each situation. Strategically develops evaluation processes for community health projects using evidence-based practices and theories. Responsible for considering all direct (Komen HQ) and indirect (Affiliates) implications of processes and decisions. Must be able to clearly communicate and teach others in order to increase their analytical skills.
Collaborates with inter-and intra-departmental teams to build Komen Headquarters, Field Offices and Affiliate Network capacity to evaluate and improve sustainable public health programs at the community, regional, and national level.
Develops and implements approaches to improve the capacity of Komen Headquarters, Field Offices, and Affiliates to use the tools, frameworks, and skill-sets associated with program monitoring and evaluation (logic models, program plans, measurable objectives, benchmarks, etc.) to develop, implement, evaluate, and improve programs.
Aids Headquarters, Field Offices and Affiliates to incorporate program evaluation into their mission activities and to use the results of program evaluation to improve mission delivery (e.g. grantmaking, contract services, program implementation)
Oversees the development and implementation of reporting tools including the integration of metrics and program outcomes into existing data systems as well as the identification, development and adaptation of new systems
Assists with developing and delivering high-impact training for staff, grantees and the organization’s Affiliates.
Responsible for conducting and completing multiple projects that includes Komen HQ, Field Offices and Affiliate audiences. This includes incorporating strong project management skills to ensure timelines are being adhered to and projects are prioritized accordingly across the multiple projects.
Provides oversight to the evaluation of Susan G. Komen’s Community Health portfolio and assesses alignment of mission activities with Komen’s mission strategy.
Identifies innovative approaches to portfolio evaluation and impact assessment.
Conducts ongoing coding and classification of Komen’s Community Health grants, programs and activities using designated coding systems including the Community Health Classification System and other program classification systems.
Conducts evaluation studies and portfolio analyses
Develops strategies to identify measurable outcomes from Komen-funded programs and projects
Retrieves and analyzes data from multiple internal and public database(s)
Analyzes both qualitative and quantitative data
Develops and implements strategies to communicate the outcomes and impact of Susan G. Komen’s community/public health portfolio for multiple audiences.
Develops innovative approaches to tracking and communicating the outcomes of Komen’s community health activities and programs.
Works with other Mission staff to identify processes and activities to enhance internal and external communication about Komen-funded mission activities
Oversees the development and periodic updating of current mission-based communication resources including project/program summaries, talking points, and website content, as appropriate.
Coordinates with the Data Science and Impact team and Community Health team to prepare tables, charts and figures for internal and external reports, as required.
Synthesizes information from multiple sources, including reports, publications, presentations, articles, and the experiences of others in the field, including staff and volunteers of Komen Affiliates.
Work collaboratively across Komen departments to help secure funding for mission programs and ensure donor stewardship.
Represents Komen and the mission team in a professional manner internally and externally to prospective and current donors and other key stakeholders in the breast cancer research and advocacy community, as needed.
Contributes to the development of donor proposals, pitch documents, presentations, reports and other materials to assist in revenue-generating.
Oversee administrative functions of the Community Health Evaluation team.
Gathers data for budget projections, plans budget with supervisor, and is accountable for variances in the budget. Provide periodic reports and analyses to leadership and team members, as needed
Manage contracts, grants and sponsorships.
Lead a small team of direct reports, supervises work of others, including planning, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing work and ensuring quality standards, training staff and overseeing their productivity. Offers recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments.
All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience Required
A Master’s Degree in the human services field, public health, business or public administration. Doctoral degree preferred.
Experience teaching others in order to increase their analytical skills.
Experience in mixed methods evaluation, community-based participatory research, data collection techniques, and data analysis.
At least 7 years demonstrated experience evaluating community health programs including: developing evaluation plans, conducting data collection and analyses, ensuring data quality, and using evaluation results to inform programmatic decisions and demonstrate programmatic impact. Experience conducting evaluations to measure intended outcomes and answer evaluation and learning objectives, including developing appropriate methodologies and data collection tools, such as assessments and surveys.
Ability to see projects through from conception to completion; demonstrated ability to identify problems and follow through until resolution.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and collaborate with team members.
Experience conducting literature reviews
Strong communication skills, written and oral.
Ability to work independently and autonomously but also function well in a collaborative team setting, working across functions and different types of people
Demonstrated expertise in managing working relationships in a matrix structure
Experience in training development and delivery.
Experience with Excel and data visualization applications
Ability to travel
Demonstrated experience in client communication including but not limited to written, oral and electronic reports.
Specialized Knowledge Requirements
Position requires intermediate level of computer/technical skills. Programs utilized are Microsoft Office, databases (internal and external) and virtual networking programs (Lync, Skype, RingCentral). Must be able to assist others with basic computer/technical issues and/or understanding. Experience using Excel formulas, pivot and other advanced functions are preferred. I – CO
