We are seeking an experienced, talented, and dynamic Senior Manager, Business Development to support new business opportunities and help forge partnerships in the media, tech, and edtech spaces to broaden our distribution footprint and generate substantial revenue for the organization.

Our innovative funding model combines earned income and philanthropic sources of revenue. Common Sense Media's age-appropriate media reviews (of movies, TV shows, games, apps, books, and websites) and parenting advice are licensed to leading media and technology companies that include Comcast, Target, Sky, Apple, and Vudu.com, among many others. Our Digital Citizenship Curriculum and education resources can be found on Nearpod and Learning.com, and our education platform is a go-to resource for teachers seeking guidance for using technology in the classroom.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a record of closing new business and have strong experience in proposal development, deal development, and contract negotiation. You will work closely with the VP of Business Development to execute on our new business strategy across high-profile entertainment media and tech companies. We are looking for considerable familiarity with the media entertainment industry (i.e., knows the players and platforms where families engage to make media decisions) and the ability to navigate the rapidly changing tech and media landscape, pivoting strategies and approach as the industry evolves. Knowledge of the evolving education ecosystem and the leading edtech players integrating technology in the classroom is a plus.

The ability to work across multiple functional areas and management levels is critical. The ideal candidate will embody the talent for thriving in a relationship-driven business by developing rapport with internal and external stakeholders, working strategically, creatively, and collaboratively to develop compelling proposals for Common Sense capabilities that drive new business. Given that the chief objective of this role is supporting new business to drive our sustainability, experience in business analysis and/or financial modeling, as well as contract development/negotiation and proposal development, is a must.

REPORTS TO: VP, Business Development

SOME OF WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Work closely with the VP of Business Development to build compelling proposals, contracts, term sheets, and analysis documents to support new business opportunities in order to monetize and increase distribution of Common Sense content.
  • Support development of new business opportunities from start to finish, including research/prospecting, developing pitch materials, crafting proposals, helping to inform negotiation strategies, contract development, and close.
  • Manage Salesforce usage for pipeline management, invoice support, and CRM functions.

WHAT WE NEED TO SEE ON YOUR RÉSUMÉ:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, including sales, business development, business analysis, and/or BD project management.
  • BA required; MBA or JD preferred.
  • Contract redlining/reviews.
  • Salesforce experience.
  • Knowledge and passion regarding the media, technology, and education landscapes, including distribution and business models.
  • Proven chops as an organized, entrepreneurial self-starter -- someone who swiftly identifies what needs to get done and is eager to make it happen.
  • A strong track record of supporting sales pipeline and sales cycles.
