Description

Downtown Streets Team (DST) is looking for a Senior Director of Human Resources to help us end homelessness through the dignity of work and the power of community. We run two proven workforce development programs that successfully transition the unhoused to self-sufficiency.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
The Senior Director of Human Resources (SDHR) is the head of the HR department and is responsible for all aspects of our human resources including recruiting, vetting, selecting, hiring, onboarding, training, promoting, paying, and terminating employees and independent contractors. The SDHR will serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and provides HR guidance to senior management and their teams.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Hiring & Onboarding

  • Oversee our hiring efforts including utilizing good hiring practices, recruiting strong diverse candidates, and instilling an effective and efficient onboarding process.
  • Develop a customized recruitment strategy with a strong focus on attracting diverse candidates.
  • Oversee orientation of all DST staff to include company enrollment, background check, I9 and Insperity.

Employee Evaluation & Training

  • Oversee employee evaluation tools to be applied during the introductory period and employment reviews.
  • Coordinate employee-required training to meet all compliance requirements including, but limited to, Sexual Harassment and HIPAA.
  • Organize and perform staff trainings on HR related topics including people management and applicable HR laws.
  • Improve how DST helps our employees to grow utilizing a combination of mentorship, coaching, and training.
  • Improve our internal performance review process to facilitate constructive feedback.

Employee Relations

  • Conduct employee relations meetings and work with Insperity on HR issues and investigations.
  • Improve DST’s promotion process.
  • Develop HR support programs and procedures; ensure they are equally applied through the company.
  • Oversee PEO-related employee maintenance, benefits selection, and management.
  • Provide a confidential space to employees to voice their concerns.
  • Conduct staffing analysis of trends and turnover.

Compliance

  • Identify legal requirements and government regulations affecting HR and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting follow local, state and federal law.
  • Maintain accurate personnel files and an HRIS system that meet all compliance requirements including tracing databases for all historical staff statistics.
  • Workers Compensation and Claims
  • Oversee payroll and wage processing.
  • Lead efforts to develop an employee compensation framework to ensure we are consistent and equitable.
  • Administer our benefits programs to make sure employees have great care and resources.
  • Provide ongoing support of safety initiatives and track all incidents, accidents, and workers' compensation claims.

Management

  • Represent HR in senior level meetings
  • Oversee at least 2 full-time employees including but not limited to HR Generalists for both DST and STE and other facility support staff.
  • Work with departmental leadership to develop staff plans during budget planning.
  • Audit and write company HR Policies.

Operations

  • Directs the overall effort to reduce and improve workflows and eliminate inefficiencies within HR Operations.
  • Oversee, strengthen, and evaluate new and existing vendor relationships.
  • Oversee COVID protocol for company and in individual communities.
  • Oversee MVR processing.
  • Manage payment and federal reporting of insurance contributions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • At least 7 years of HR experience, progressing to larger roles with more responsibilities.
  • Degree in HR and professional certifications a plus.
  • Ability to perform job duties with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Excellent listening comprehension, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional emotional intelligence.
  • Grit and perseverance to get through the hard days.
  • Excellence without ego – provide five-star internal customer service helpfully and humbly.
  • Proactive collaboration – intentionally seeking out others to solve problems before they start.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs.
