2021 was a landmark year in Tides’ 45-year history. We are experiencing a unique and powerful opportunity for transformative change for the future in how we lead and impact social justice and shared prosperity. Taking committed actions to prepare for this change, we have welcomed an expanded and largely new executive team, partnered with a top-notch social impact consulting firm to revitalize our strategic plan, and focus our operational excellence initiatives, and grown our core staff significantly. These investments will help Tides to better serve our partners and bring our vision – of a world of shared prosperity and social justice – to life.

The Role:

The Sr. Advisor, c3/c4 Partners is a core member of the Fiscally Sponsored Projects team at Tides. The Sr. Advisor c3/c4 will be responsible for supporting Tides’ and Tide Advocacy’s shared c3/c4 partners by ensuring that these important partners receive the very best level of service delivery from Tides.

This role on the Tides Network Partnerships team serves as a project manager, communicator, and coordinator between departments working in support of shared c3/c4 partners across both Tides and Tides Advocacy, including but not limited to the Tides Center, Tides Foundation, and Tides Advocacy Finance teams; the Tides Network and Tides Advocacy Legal, Risk, and Compliance teams; the Tides Advocacy Advisor team; and shared partners themselves. This role is responsible for developing a holistic understanding of each shared partner’s needs, and how to ensure that they are met. This role will  work to ensure that all departments have clear, accurate advance visibility into forthcoming shared  partner fundraising and programmatic activity; that the Tides Advocacy Advisor team and the partners themselves have a clear understanding of what documentation will be required to support that activity,  both in advance and to support accurate reporting following the transfer of funds; that said documentation  is provided on-time and as-needed; and that all financial transactions (e.g. grants from c3 to c4 entities,  cost sharing payments) are completed within 30 days of having this documentation in order.

This position is classified as part of the collective bargaining agreement (SEIU 1021).

What you will do:

  • Host and coordinate regular “stand-up” meetings with core shared partner support staff to review all planned and upcoming activity across the ~45-partner shared portfolio, including but not limited to planned outgoing funding proposals, anticipated incoming grants, planned programmatic spending, and known partner needs or roadblocks.
  • Meet regularly with the Tides Center and Tides Foundation Finance teams to:
    • Review any outstanding supporting documentation required to reconcile accounts, facilitate financial transactions, provide financial reporting, etc.; commit to next steps and timelines for securing documentation from partners.
    • Convey any outstanding partner/Advisor needs of Tides Center/Foundation Finance; understand any roadblocks or barriers to meeting those needs in a timely fashion; align on next steps and timelines for meeting partner/Advisor needs.
  •    Meet regularly with the Tides Advocacy Advisor team to:
    • Review any outstanding partner or Advisor needs of Tides Center Finance, such as financial statements or visibility into accounts; commit to next steps and timelines for getting partner/Advisor needs met by Tides Center Finance.
    • Convey any outstanding supporting documentation required by Tides Center Finance; align on next steps and timelines for providing outstanding documentation.
  • Meet regularly with each of the ~45 shared partners, hosted by the Tides Advocacy Advisor who is the main day-to-day contact, to review all anticipated activities, follow up on any outstanding requests for supporting documentation, understand partner needs of Tides, answer any partner questions, and commit to next steps and timelines for meeting partner needs.
  • Coordinate regularly with all core shared partner support staff on all next steps determined in the above meetings, ensuring everyone understands what their next steps are, and the timetable required for completion. If obstacles to achieving next steps are uncovered, work collaboratively with all cores shared partner support staff to overcome those obstacles in a timely manner.
  • For partners with c3 Collective Action Funds (CAFs) and c4 fiscally sponsored projects, work with the Tide Center and Tides Advocacy teams to produce a regular portfolio-wide financial assessment to help the service team plan and track grants from the c3 to the c4.
  • Produce a regular report to be sent to all core shared partner support staff, plus executive leadership at both Tides Network and Tides Advocacy, detailing the following for the entire shared partner portfolio:
    • Total value of any outstanding funding in c3 accounts that is in process of moving to c4 accounts, a status update on next steps required for the funding to move and who is taking them, and the length of time the funding has been outstanding (where that is a relevant factor).
    • Each individual piece of outstanding supporting documentation required to move these outstanding funds, a status update on next steps for providing it and who is taking them, and the length of time it has been outstanding.
    • All outstanding unmet partner/Advisor needs (e.g. financial statements), a status update on next steps for meeting them and who is taking them, and the length of time they have been outstanding.

What you will bring:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a strong ability to facilitate collaborative problem-solving to reach solutions that benefit all parties.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity to and appreciation for diverse viewpoints, different communication styles, and a wide range of diverse colleagues and partner partners. • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, presentation development and diplomacy when speaking directly with partners.
  • Strong project management skills, high attention to detail, and solid experience in working across entities and networks undertaking significant, complex planning efforts.
  • Ability to manage, track, and understand advanced fiscal management concepts. • Ability to hold self and others accountable for high-quality, timely, and effective partner service with a demonstrated commitment to meeting needs of internal and external partners for a high level of satisfaction.
  • High level of analytical skills, including the ability to work with and manipulate data from multiple sources, assimilate and present information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Manage in an environment of change, or ability to lead through adaptive change. • Proficiency with MS Office, Google Drive, Salesforce, and NetSuite preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • Knowledge and a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a non-profit environment that involves both c3 and c4 entity structures and programmatic work
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) working to create nonprofit impact, in the areas of operations, project management, financial management and oversight, and grant application and reporting.
  • 10+ years of relevant and applicable work experience in nonprofit management, across both c3 and c4 entities and programmatic work.
