Housing Up is one of the leading non-profit organizations in Washington, DC providing the full spectrum of housing and supportive services to more than 700 homeless and at-risk families so that they can transform their own lives. Housing programs include permanent supportive, rapid rehousing, transitional, and affordable rental housing. Supportive services include case management, employment services, clinical services, housing counseling, resident services, life skills and youth programming.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Resident Services (DRS), the Resident Services Coordinator (RSC) will be providing direct services to vulnerable families living at two affordable housing properties in NW Washington, DC. The overall goal of the position is to facilitate and coordinate onsite services and programs that enable families to live comfortably and self-sufficiently. Such programs include health and wellness, senior services, workforce development and youth enrichment activities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Youth Development / Out-of-School Time: RSC will oversee the after school, teen and summer programs. This includes planning and leading enrichment workshops, offsite trip for experiential knowledge, connecting youth to opportunities in the community while focusing on both social-emotional learning and academic enrichment targets;
  • Adult and Senior Services/ Programs: Partners with Director of Resident Services to create programs and services that are designed with a special emphasis on health/wellness, financial fitness, and education. Connect adults with resources in the community. In addition, RSC will maintain regular contact with senior residents by identifying needs and those who are vulnerable and in danger of being shut-ins;
  • Develop/Maintaining Partnerships: RSC will maintain the continuity of current partners and work on expanding partnerships where necessary. RSC will work closely and collaboratively with Housing Up’s Volunteer Programs Team to create new programs and discuss onsite volunteer opportunities. RSC will work with DRS to identify onsite needs and what community resources could be cultivated that could be beneficial to families. Additionally, RSC will work closely with the onsite third-party, Property Management to maintain housing stability;
  • Resident Relations / Consultations: RSC will develop successful working relationships with residents to support community connection and housing stability. RSC will partner with residents to goal set and navigate educational opportunities, employment goals, household concerns and provide resources/referrals when necessary and troubleshoot barriers that arise;
  • Data Management: RSC will collect and analyze data from programs and services to identify property trends and adjust service models where necessary. RSC will produce regular program/service status reports and continuously provide upkeep of data in the department’s tracking database;
  • Housing Maintenance: Working with the DRS, the Coordinator will assist in maintaining the housing voucher program for 34 families who are considered particularly vulnerable by the DC Housing Authority. The RS team acts as liaisons between the DC Housing Authority and residents, aiding with the lease-up and the recertification process for these families;
  • Community Centers/Computer Labs: Most services/programs will be provided in the community room. RSC will maintain the community room/computer lab area ensuring that residents compile with the proper policies and procedures;
  • Special Events/ Diverse Programming: RSC will create programming that is reflective of the property and community demographics including events that are culturally competent and language specific. RSC will also lead holiday and property-wide community events throughout the year and sometimes on weekends.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of progressive work experience in social services, education field or equivalency of work education and experience required;
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. required;
  • Experience using MS Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Docs;
  • Ability to prioritize effectively while managing multiple tasks and responsibilities;
  • Working knowledge of DC area community resources to address client needs;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma-informed service delivery, with experience executing this approach in housing programs;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide services with empathy and with consideration of how trauma impacts the mental, physical, and psychological responses of residents; and
  • Strong documentation, planning and reporting skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work or other human service field preferred;
  • Spanish or Amharic speaker preferred;
  • Experience using social services database;
  • Having experience working with people who are undocumented;

 

Work Environment/Physical Effort

The Resident Services Coordinator will primarily work onsite at two of our affordable housing properties in Washington, DC. Most programs take place in the evening. Resident Services Coordinator will be required to work a 12pm – 8pm schedule, a minimum of three nights a week. Additionally, special events such as holidays or community celebrations may take place on weekends.

  • Requires ability to sit up to 3-6 hours per day with intermittent occasional walking and standing;
  • Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods; and
  • Ability to lift 20-30 pounds.

 

Salary and Benefits

Salary $50,000-$55,000 (Depending on qualifications and experience).
