Position Summary:

The psychiatric nurse practitioner, with an affiliation agreement of a psychiatrist, provides services within the scope of his/her license/certification and according to the professional standards of his/her discipline. This position will have the responsibility of assessing and providing ongoing medication management and smoking cessation, as needed, to individuals. Provide psychiatric and integrated medical assessment, provide treatment, and development, maintenance, and supervision of medication and psychiatric and medical treatment. Studies, diagnoses, formulate treatment programs, and directs or treats patients with mental, emotional, substance, and behavioral disorders utilizing a variety of therapeutic methods and medications.

Essential Accountabilities:

  • Be responsible for diagnosis and formulate a treatment plan with the client for the CCBHC members psychiatric and substance abuse needs.
  • Determine program participants diagnosis, the medication to be utilized during treatment. Will prescribe medication, order labs, prescribe physical tests as indicated for psychiatric medication administration, and provide therapy and education.
  • Reviews the appropriateness of any existing medication regimen through review of the medication record obtaining medication logs from external sources as needed and in consultation with the client, significant others with consent, and staff. Uses this information to prescribe and/or administer medication; monitors the effects of the medication on the program members mental and physical health.
  • Will obtain certification to provide Ancillary Withdrawal, Suboxone prescription at induction and continuance.
  • Document prescriptions and interventions. Completes all required forms and documentation in the client's electronic health record.
  • Conducts Psychiatric evaluations and updates as needed and required by regulations.
  • As needed, assist/empower individuals to identify and achieve recovery goals in chosen life roles/environments.
  • Receive supervision by and report to the Psychiatrist and/or Division Director. Participates in provider group supervision.
  • Function as a vital part of an interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Must be able to read typed and written correspondence, clinical notes, communication log, minutes of the meeting, and doctor orders.
  • Track and maintain paperwork for special programs, such as the SAMHSA-funded CCBHC program.
  • Always maintain confidentiality in accord with all Federal/State guidelines.
  • Work schedules and locations are subject to change.
  • Represent agency and Clinic at inter-agency meetings and conferences.
  • Participate in the development of new service initiatives, including research, analysis, and preparation of written reports.
  • Participate in all audit processes.
  • Conduct staff meetings and/or training as directed. This does not exclude the assignment of duties or exclude the performance of other duties, not mentioned, as assigned by supervisors.
  • Working knowledge of telehealth and willingness to utilize if needed. Will participate in specific training for telehealth, i.e., engagement and confidentiality
  • A staff person will take part in case conference meetings and biweekly supervision with CCBHC Project Director and engage routinely with the Addiction Recovery Program Director and supervisor. May provide coverage in Article 31 clinic as needed.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of childhood psychiatric disorders, cultural competency, family-driven, youth guided, strength-based, and trauma-informed care.
  • Has or will develop a basic understanding of Evidence-Based Treatment models to ensure consistency in approach to clientele.
  • Adhere to confidentiality laws and guidelines. Cultural competency and sensitivity.
  • Has an understanding of suicide prevention, intervention, and post-vention. Training to enhance sill will be available.
  • Understands trauma-informed care (TIC) and will present themselves in a professional manner demonstrating the TIC model in all interactions.
  • Participate in trainings as directed by Project Director and self-directed interest.

Licensed and registered as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in New York State, required. Experience working with people with substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and mental health preferred.

Knowledge of lifespan psychiatric disorders, trauma-informed care, evidence-based treatment, developmental milestones, psychiatric medications, and MAT services. Computer proficiency, including the ability to use email, navigate and enter all documentation into the electronic medical record. Valid Drivers License Required
