Susan G. Komen is the world’s largest breast cancer organization, funding more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit outside of the federal government while providing real-time help to those facing the disease. Komen has set a Bold Goal to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths by 50 percent in the U.S. by 2026.

Background

 

The Program Manager, Community Health is a member of the Community Health team within the Mission Department.  The Community Health work of the organization is guided by quantitative and qualitative data that illustrates the breast cancer landscape nationally, regionally, state-wide, and locally in areas served by our Affiliates.  The role of the Program Manager is to manage the process for developing Community Profiles, creating mission actions plans to guide informed and data-driven decisions about implementing activities targeting barriers to care, ensuring that community health activities will help to meet Healthy People 2030 targets.

Position Summary

 

The primary objective of the Program Manager, Community Programs is to support Susan G. Komen in achieving our overall Vision and Mission by:

 

  • Working collaboratively within a matrix environment, establishing the strategy and managing the Community Profile process for Komen nationally, regionally, state-wide and locally for Komen’s 60+ Affiliates and field offices.
  • Working collaboratively with community health staff in the field, assisting Komen’s 60+ Affiliates and Field Offices in (1) establishing a Mission Action Plan to guide informed and data-driven decisions about implementing activities targeting barriers to care, ensuring that community health activities will help to meet Healthy People 2030 targets; (2) assessing progress towards the set targets of the MAP.
  • Creating resources, trainings and tools, and providing ongoing technical assistance to Affiliates and field offices in completing the Profiles and Mission Action Plans and assessing progress towards the targets of the MAP. 
  • Bringing public health expertise and data knowledge to identify priority communities that are most in need; and recommending best practices, promising practices and innovative programs to contribute to the implementation of a mission delivery strategy.
  • Promoting an organizational culture that values trust, commitment to the mission, scientific integrity, and professional and organizational growth.

 

Primary Responsibilities

Working collaboratively within a matrix environment, establishing the strategy and managing the Community Profile process for Komen nationally, regionally, state-wide and locally for Komen’s 60+ Affiliates and field offices.

  • Serves as subject matter expert on the community health team and works with the Community Health Advisory Committee in an analysis of different types of needs assessments and develops recommendations on the best structure and components of the Community Profile and Mission Action Plan.
  • Responsible for overall project management of the Community Profile, also known as community needs assessment project, including quantitative data analysis, qualitative analysis, and Mission Action Plan; and most aspects related to the development and implementation of these parts of the CP.
  • Prepares master excel documents to track the entire program lifecycle and deliverables; and maintaining databases related to Community Profile outputs, outcomes and impact.

 

Working collaboratively with community health staff in the field, assisting Komen’s 60+ Affiliates and Field Offices in establishing a Mission Action Plan to guide informed and data-driven decisions about implementing activities targeting barriers to care, ensuring that community health activities will help to meet Healthy People 2030 targets.

  • Provides consultation and guidance to Affiliates and field offices in the development and ongoing implementation of their Mission Action Plans.
  • Manages a mid-cycle report process with Affiliates and field offices to assess status of activities outlines in the MAP and achieving their targets. Assesses the reasons why some affiliates and field offices may not be on target and work with them to get on target.

 

Creating resources, trainings and tools, and providing ongoing technical assistance to Affiliates and field offices in completing the Profiles and Mission Action Plans and assessing progress towards the targets of the MAP. 

 

  • Develops the Community Profile Guidebook to reflect current landscape and best practices for public health needs assessments.
  • Develops 2021 Community Profile template.
  • Develops trainings and educational sessions for Komen Affiliates and field offices to successfully complete the CP.
  • Develops tools and resources in support of the implementation of the Mission Action Plans.

 


Bringing public health expertise and data knowledge to identify priority communities that are most in need; and recommending best practices, promising practices and innovative programs to contribute to the implementation of a mission delivery strategy (also called Mission Action Plan).

 

  • Works closely with the larger Community Health Team to identify and recognize outstanding community health programs and support the development and implementation of model programs by the Affiliates and Komen-funded community programs/projects. Maintains knowledge of successful programs in the field, and latest development in breast cancer programming.

 

  • Synthesizes information from multiple sources, including Community Profiles, reports, publications, presentations, articles, and the experiences of others in the field, including SGK Headquarters and Affiliate staff, partners, and community members to prepare reports, articles and other.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Experience Required

Educational and Experience Requirements

 

Master’s Degree in public health, or relevant discipline. Minimum of 3-year experience in and/or needs assessments and/or program evaluation.

Minimum Requirements

Ability to analyze primary and secondary data at multiple levels (e.g., county, state, regional, national) to draw appropriate, accurate conclusions towards reaching Komen’s bold goal.

Requires ability to analyze best practices and incorporate these practices into Komen program implementation plan.

Knowledge of current techniques and procedures used in the design and development of evidence-based public health curricula and training materials.

Ability to interpret data for program and intervention development.

Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

Considerable knowledge of current literature, trends, and developments in the public health field.

Ability to communicate effectively both oral and written; research, develop, present, and

promote projects; work independently; prioritize work and meet deadlines.

Strong organizational and project management skills

Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements.

Must be able to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Specialized Knowledge Requirements

  • Outstanding computer skills including experience with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.
