Overview:

Launched in January 2024 by the American Trucking Associations’ Industry Affairs team, Women In Motion (WIM) is the newest council* dedicated to highlighting women in the trucking industry—and it’s growing rapidly. We are seeking a dynamic, confident, and driven Program Director, Women In Motion to lead this initiative and help to shape its future. The Program Director will be responsible for leading the strategic direction and growth of WIM, managing multiple projects, building relationships for stakeholders, and executing a wide range of initiatives designed to engage, empower, and elevate women in trucking.

 

This role is ideal for someone who excels at networking, enjoys traveling and meeting new people, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate can independently manage multiple projects while maintaining a positive and collaborative attitude. The Program Director will train under the Industry Affairs team and will assume full leadership of and perform all responsibilities of WIM once core processes are established and essential relationships are in place.

* ATA's 5 Councils provide individuals unique opportunities to identify solutions to challenges faced by trucking. ATA councils have access to industry knowledge, recommended practices and the latest innovations for the trucking industry. The Councils are designed for trucking professionals interested in professional development, contributing to industry best practices, and delivering technical advice to ATA policy committees. Each Council offers a variety of webinars on pressing topics, a governance structure representing members and focused industry leadership.

 

About Women In Motion (WIM):

WIM’s mission is to support and promote the achievements and contributions of women in the trucking industry, and to create opportunities for career advancement and leadership development, WIM actively participates in many of ATA’s established meetings, as women are represented across every sector of the trucking industry. We are dedicated to fostering a community that empowers women within these diverse sectors.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic direction and continued growth of WIM through impactful initiatives and programming, ensuring alignment with WIM’s mission.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with ATA and WIM members (members), board members, industry partners, and stakeholders.
  • Manage a diverse set of initiatives including events, advocacy efforts, webinars, communications, and other endeavors that support professional development and networking for women in the trucking industry.
  • Promote women’s contributions across the industry.
  • Manage multiple projects and deadlines independently, maintaining clear communication and collaboration, both internally and externally.
  • Foster online community engagement and communication with members and stakeholders on social media platforms, supporting content creation online through relevant publications, blogs, and social media.
  • Manage fundraising efforts to solicit new sponsors and maintain current sponsorships.
  • Present updates to ATA leadership and stakeholders, identifying opportunities for program growth and improvement.
  • Collaborate with other ATA departments to integrate WIM initiatives into broader ATA efforts and ensure cohesive and timely support.
  • Additional duties, as assigned. Professional growth and development is encouraged and supported.

 

Core Functions:

  1. Provide strategic leadership and guidance to WIM Council members and ATA staff, aligning with ATA’s mission and goals.
    1. As WIM is an ATA council, our programs emphasize advocacy and ways to build our advocacy footprint, which is paramount to our success.
  2. Facilitate and manage council board meetings, prepare agendas and presentations, and foster board member engagement by sending regular updates.
  3. Coordinate and manage workshops, networking dinners and receptions, events, trainings, mentorship programs, and other activities supporting women’s professional growth in trucking
  4. Act as a liaison between WIM Council members and ATA leadership, advocating for women’s representation in the industry.
  5. Engage with industry stakeholders, government bodies, and partners to amplify WIM’s influence.
  6. Build relationships with external organizations, women’s advocacy groups, and educational institutions.
  7. Develop metrics to measure the success and effectiveness of WIM’s initiatives and programs.
  8. Regularly assess progress, gather feedback, and make data-driven decisions and improvements.
  9. Create best practices to be shared with ATA and WIM members.
  10. Maintain an active online presence and contribute to relevant publications.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of program/project management and/or development experience in a large company and/or association. Prior experience with fundraising a plus.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Hospitality, Social Sciences, or related field. Advanced degree or relevant certifications are a plus.
  • Skills: 
    1. Strong communication, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders and maintain a collaborative and positive environment
    2. Project management
    3. Professional writing, such as press releases
    4. Leadership and development
    5. Networking and relationship building
  • A proactive and creative, problem-solver with a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results independently.
  • Proficient in digital platforms, social media, and virtual collaboration tools.
  • Confidence in public speaking and presenting to senior leadership, members, and stakeholders
  • A “can-do” positive attitude is essential as WIM is in growth mode with much excitement within ATA and the industry.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%.
