Optica (formerly OSA), the leading forum for light science and technology worldwide, is seeking a PR/Communications Coordinator to join our team. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, and superior writing ability. You will gain practical, hands-on experience in a fast-paced, global scientific PR environment.

Position Summary: 

Coordinating, Writing, Research & Analytics

  • Manage the Optica Publishing/PR journal press release process
  • Assist in researching and preparing Optica corporate press releases
  • Request Banner Ad/Images for Optica news releases
  • Post approved news releases to the Optica website
  • Monitor media coverage associated with Optica press releases
  • Curate, draft and edit content for the Optica blog
  • Write/Post social media content, as needed
  • Maintain the Optica social media editorial calendar
  • Track and report on monthly social media analytics
  • Update web content in the Optica Newsroom
  • Provide PR support for conferences, trade shows and special programs
  • Implement multi-media strategies to promote Optica programs
  • Coordinate and schedule interview requests
  • Assist in organizing press and media conferences
  • Cultivate relationships with the trade and mainstream press media
  • Other duties as assigned


Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate-level coursework in public relations, science and/or integrated communications
  • Several years of experience in PR/Communications, ideally in a scientific/technical field
  • Global experience and/or language skills (esp. Chinese) a plus
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft office software
  • Familiarity with social media and media relations tactics

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Interpersonal and written communication skills required for internal and external contacts
  • Ability to manage workflow with daily deadlines
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment
